1000 in./lbs. impact wrench enough to take off crank pulley?
Will a 1000 in./lbs. impact wrench enough to take off crank pulley? people told me 600 was enough but i'm not sure it is in ft/lbs or in/lbs. what is 100in/lbs converted to ft/lbs.
my right arm produces more torque than that w/ a breaker bar.
there was a deal from homedepot like 2 weeks ago on a clearance husky one, like 250 ft/lb, not sure if its still available.

goto the forums, then hot deals, and then search for impact.

i havent seen an airtool yet(3/4" impact included) that wants any part of an accord/prelude crank pulley bolt. civic/teg are cool all day long but the bigger accord/prelude bolts are tight.
best thing to do is get a breaker bar, floorjack handle for leverage, and the biggest pair of channel locks you can find. place the channel locks onto the crank pulley itself(outermost part) and let them rest against the axle or control arm or something else solid. the harder you pull to get the bolt free, the harder those channel locks bite and they will not slip.
dont jam screwdrivers into the crank pulley holes or anything else. i have seen crank pullies shatter from things like that.

channel locks are big adjustable pliers. you know, the kind that have multiple slots to make the "plier part" bigger or smaller. here is an example of what i have and use. and yes, they are called BigAzz channel locks and actually have "BigAzz" engraved on them.

Didn't you post about this awile ago? You still haven't gotten it off? People could argue about this all day but I really dont think its a good idea to subject the crankshaft to the repeated shock of a high power impact wrench. You can do it with a breaker bar and a pipe. And if needed get a torch and get the bolt hot. Also a larger friend always helps
here's my cheapo method:
a flywheel
2 flywheel bolts
a breaker bar
and a friend of yours
get your friend hold the flywheel while you torque the crank pulley

first get a torch, heat the bolt for about ten minutes. then get a imack socket, breaker bar, and a big *** bar on the end of the breaker bar. have a friend hold the brakes whille the car is in fifth gear and break that bitch loose. the hotter u get the bolt the better. has to be a impact socket or else u will crack the socket. works like a charm everytime
Any one notice that this post is 6 years old. I love that people are using the search function but maybe we should start reading the dates on posts...lol
Oh just to ad some tech to my post. I used a crank pulley tool and a breaker bar to get my crank pulley off. Much easier than trying to use any kind of impact gun. It needs constant pressure to break the thread lock.

i was saying if u heat the bolt up u need a impact socket, after u break three sockets u realize this. craftsman isnt that inferior to me. i know it aint snapon but whatever.
