Default car idles fine, but stalls when you give it a stab on the throttle

91 civic hatch SI.

just changed out the fuel pump. and the car idles perfect. has a bit of a time starting up. and as long as you take the revs up from idle VERY VERY slowly, it will work fine. but if you try to just give it some gas and take of it will stall out and die. kinda like the fuel got cut off or something...

today im going to switch out a new resister box, and a new fuel filter.

any ideas are welcome...

How high do the rpms have to get up before you can stomp it and it wont fall on its face? My dx jumped a tooth and I had to baby it up to about 2500 before I could hit it or it would die. Check your timing belt then make sure the rotor screw is in real tight.

I'm having a similar problem. The engine idles fine, but when you move the throttle the littlest bit, the engine sounds like it's suffocating and dies. We just finished putting the engine back together. It started over heating and started leaking coolant, then started puffing white smoke and idles really erratically. Seemed like symptoms of head gasket. Just to be safe I replaced the radiator (out of my spare CX), and then took the the cylinder head apart. checked the cylinders/pistons, etc. Look fine. Replaced the headgasket, timing belt, water pump. Put the whole thing back together. Started her up now it's doing what I described up at the top. I'm hoping it's just a timing issue. Won't be able to look at it until Tuesday, but I'm hoping I'm just off a tooth or something. Any ideas though?
