Default does oil weight affect A/F ratio???

i was watching my wideband tonight while doing some WOT runs and it was running lean (like 14:1 ) instead of the usual 12.5:1. i was trying to figure out what changed. then i started to wonder if it was the oil change that i did this evening. i changed from 10W30 to 5W30. i've heard before that thinner oil will give better gas milage. that means it uses less gas. which might mean that it would run leaner??? i'm really taking a stab in the dark at this but i really want to know what changed. it has stayed steady for 3,000 miles since my SC install and i'd like to trace what went wrong. could someone please tell me if i'm on the right track here?

thanks

I don't see why it would...but IF it is, then I'd say that you put in an oil that is so thin that its leaking past the rings and "watering" down the fuel

I agree with Miraiz. Except, I think that oil in the cylinder would have a tendency to force air out before fuel (air being the more fluid, so to speak) and thus cause an overly rich condition. SO, either you are paranoid, there's been a drastic change in weather, or something else is up. And not meant as a stab, but it kind of scares me that you are asking this

LOL, i'm right there with you Blufke,

Someone needs "hooked on phonics"

In any case, if your running a turbo on your car your gonna wanna run atleast 10w30 due to the fact that the turbo alone will cause the oil to break down easier due to the heat. Some people in the warmer climate areas actually run 15w30. I personally am gonna be running 15w30 during the summer time since I'm located in hot as hell Arizona.

ek9vboi, you gotta chill man. I've seen a lot of your posts and with the responses you've been giving to all the newbies, I'm gonna have to say your almost a newbie yourself .

ok first of all, thanks blufke for quoting that post before it was edited - LOL it made my day reading it.

i'm running a supercharger...not a turbo. also keep in mind that the first number is the viscocity when the oil is cool and the second number is the viscocity when it is up to temp. and as long as the driver has half of a brain, he wouldnt boost anyways until the motor is fully warmed up. my reason for switching from 10w to 5w is because winter is approaching (cold MN) and i wont be changing it again until spring so now was the time to switch.

Some stupid analogy I came up with......maybe it´s totally wrong.......

Thinner oil, may produce higher amounts of oil vapours.......this can get sucked through the intake, into the combustion chamber......this definitely lowers octane rating.......and lower octane rating means the fuel is easier to get burned......so maybe that´s why you are running lean.....

shoot me...... but humid climate will make you richer.......cold weather will make you go lean, same goes with atmospheric pressure, high atmosferic pressure (sunny days usually) will make you run leaner.......

hey keebler i'm from MN too and i noticed the other day after i took my car to the carwash and gave it a nice 10 wash and started my car...my air/fuel gauge read lean for about a good 15 min or so. so maybe it's just the humiditiy in the MN air??
