when I bought my civic 3 yrs ago it came w/ a "honda" battery, not sure how long it had been in there but the guy saved receipts for everything and there were none for the battery. (the no's on the battery sticker were not stamped out to show the date) Well my car not having a buzzer I have killed my battery at least 12+ times between leaving the headlights, fogs, and dome light on over the last 3 yrs. Well about a month ago, I had a pulley incident about 20+ miles from my house and had to drive the car home on just the battery (no alternator) about a mile from my house all the gauges died so I must have JUST made it. sure enough I shut the car off in my driveway and it wouldnt start cause the battery was toasted. Well it sat for about 3 weeks like that and after I fixed the other problems I jumped it, let it idle for a few min and drove it for an hour- ran fine even though the "eye: in the battery was still black instead of green. now the car starts no problem at all and 2 weeks later the eye of the battery has even turned back to green . props to honda for the bad-*** battery!
But lately when I get done driving or stop at a light i am smelling a wierd smell, from the battery area of the engine bay. it smells a little like when you burn something plastic... but not too strong. The car runs great & the "eye" thingy is still green, any ideas on what this smell could mean? it is definitely coming from the general area where the battery is, I just hope it is not going to explode or anything.
