Hey guys -

A friend of mine has a 98 SI (canada) and lately she's been complaining about erratic idling (higher than normal and fluctuates) also poor gas mileage and bogging when she goes WOT.

I suggested changing the PCV valve first before anything else, but she was convinced it's the MAP sensor. My question is with this behavior listed above, would this indicate a faulty MAP sensor or something else.

The shop she brought it to said she needs a new MAP sensor and a AIC???? I have never heard of this before and figured I would get some great info if I posted here.

I honestly don't have a lot of faith in that shop and I'd hate to see her get taken to the cleaners for something very simple.

Clean out IACV, warm up the car then reset the ECU.

Allow the ECU to run for 10minutes without touching the Acclerator.

 

is she throwing codes?

 

Yeah, apparently she was throwing a code. I'm waiting to hear back to see what code it was.

Do what Spade said. Check the code. Also, when was the last time a tuneup was performed? ie. plugs,wires, cap&rotor changed?
