Looking for an H5 car for 04
hi KingRat!
funny you should mention H5.....
my dad has been driving around in a bone stock 2000 Civic SI for the past 48k miles. he mentioned the other day he was looking at a Subie wagon, and was thinking of trading the Civic. i was horrified, because i have been wondering how that '00 SI would do in H5 (i think in SSC trim it is in H5.). total prep would be a bolt in cage, harnesses, seat back brace, kill switch, window net, race pads and race tires.
i think it could be competitive in H5. fairly good top end power (B16A2), decent gearing, fair brakes. stock suspension is super soft, but easy to drive. i think it would be good! i am trying to convince him that he should donate the car to me, or if he keeps it, that it would be "neat" for him to be driving around in a fully caged race car (this is a hard sell, as he is 71 years old this year!).
maybe you will see me in H5 next year occasionally (especially when the H1 car is broken down!).

if the car is race prepped, yes, H3 (suspension, engine mods, stripped, etc.). I think in SSC form (bone bone bone stock except for saftey mods) it is H5.

no way, man!!! thats just it; i don't want him to sell it! I WANT IT!!!!
its perfect; driven by a little old man. probably only ever seen VTEC when I pick it up to change the oil and service it
If he is insistent on selling (and not "giving" it to me) I will ask him what he wants for it. I'd figure at least $13k or so. its that nice/unmolested.
todd
PS i am really going to try to convince him to let me use it on the weekends!!!

SSB == H4
SSC == H5
Remember though that you cannot just show up with a "stock" Honda. Needs to be a currently eligible and log booked Showroom Stock car.

I don't know how you fit in that thing.

[QUOTE=.RJ]$13K? $10-$11K is more realistic.QUOTE]
up here in "rice central" (philly/nj/nyc) these cars bring a premium. you will see them trading hands (in excellent condition) for more than $13k. they are "hot" cars right now in this geographic region. in fact, they get stolen alot here. i urged dad not to drive it into philly or nyc, ever. instead, he takes his truck!
regardless, i am urging him not to sell it. i'd say that there is at least a 50% chance you ECHC folks will see a super clean, black, 2000 SI at the races in the next year or so...

There is one in the DC area being sold for extremely cheap.
If I could get rid of this Miata I would pick it up and have it caged by september.

Check into this car. Not sure if it is still available, but I was looking into this car before I picked up mine. The cage will need a little modification to be ECHC/SCCA-IT,SSC legal.

No. But I was looking at it about a year ago. If he still has it, I would think he would be willing to deal. The cage is awesome and a lot of the **** work has been done. Think he will sell it w/o the go-fast parts as well. It would be a PITA a build an SSC car out of, but for H3 I would be all over it. We need an Si.
I donno. 100# lighter, same brakes, similar HP. I would think it would do okay. If I didn't have a bunch of GSR parts I would have gotten this car, or an SSC Si, instead of my SSB GSR.
I also have faith the HC will address min weight issues if cars are not competitive.
EDIT: H3 min weight is the same for the Del of and the Si. 2475 vs 2575 for the GSR.

Well if Grand Am Cup could be used as a barometer, I'd say the Si could do alright. I believe back when the Honda of America Racing Team was running Si's in STII they were very successful, even while running the same weight as the GS-R's. It wasn't until the Si's last season that the Planet Earth Motorsports GS-R's were able to catch up. You might wanna email Wayne Nonnamaker about it. I'll drop my HART guy a line to see if he knows.
Either way I think if you worked really hard on the suspension, you'd probably be close.

I will be changing to a CRX si tub some time soon and the 89 Civic DX tub will then ge available. Its the one I run in H4 now (blue with white hood and front bumper). It has the D16A6 in it right now but I have the original DX motor and trans (needs a clutch but it was running fine when I bought it).
I'd sell the tub with stock suspension and some stealies. Bolt in Kirk rollcage that is in it now. E mail me off line if interested. ronspencer@nc.rr.com

You guys really think a SSC 99-00 Si would beat what basically amounts to an ITA 92-95 Civic Dx hatch?
I dunno--my vote goes for the light and well-handling Civic hatch.
