i bought a 85 crx hf today
well... this is my start into the honda-world... this is my first honda ever. it is going to be a track only car, i got it really cheap. do most parts for the newer crx's fit on the 85? what are the major differences... my plans include building a b16a, gutting it all, welding a cage, repainting it, suspension, etc.... thanks
Heres the deal. With the HF there is going to be a TON of wiring as it is still Carbureated. You might not want to touch that. Even if it were an Si the swap itself could very well be, one of the more difficult. There is very little engine bay room. Newer CRX parts will probably not fit as they changed to OBD-0 computers and weren't carb'd any more. Good luck on making it a track car, but try and find an Si if you want to swap...
if you own a 1g crx or a 3 g civic you need to be at http://www.redpepperracing.com
Screw the trends man! Keep it carbed!!! Thats what I had planned for my 84, but I sold out... There are literally no parts for an 84, but 85-87 parts aren't all that hard to find. But yeah, Red Pepper Racing helped me out a lot when I still had my 1G. Good luck with it though.
You've pretty much got the lightest CRX ever made. Those things weight about 1700lbs off the factory floor.
I would'nt worry too much about the wiring. If you do a swap and get the complete harness, you should be fine. You will have to wire up power to the ECU which is easy.
As for interchangeability, pretty much nothing from the 2nd gen fits the 1st gen crx.
