OT: Speeding Tickets in BC, Canada - how to fight?
I got nabbed by this a$$hole of a cop(radar trap), right when I was overtaking a dusty gravel truck. Nabbed me while accelarating, hence, gave me a ticket doing 40km/h over! Last thing I need is demerit points, and I didn't have a choice, either overtaker the truck OR get a cracked windshield!
And he wouldn't even listen.....he was pretty rude!
Since I have an Alberta license, I don't know how fighting this id going to work..any suggestions?

I think you'll probably have to go to court in BC. You can probably get rid of either the points or the fine in court, but not both. That is if the officer shows up. To fight the ticket, I think there a instructions on the back of it. Or they send you a letter outlining your rights and how to fight it...been a while since I got one...sorry if thats no help...?
It's out of province so you don't have to worry about points... they just want your money.
I got nailed for going 40km over last year, damn their tickets cost more than ours. I decided to fight it, mailed back the ticket pleading not guilty. I didn't bother showing up for court so they convicted me anyway, but at least it gave me 6 months to pay... The last 2 tickets locally I've gotten off because the cops never showed up in court. The way I see it, you're not going to get out of the ticket because it's pretty black and white, you were speeding and they don't care about the circumstances. Now you should just get your moneys worth and set a court date.

POINTTS is good - but they are expensive. But when you consider the savings in insurance premiums over 5 years - it's a relatively affordable expenditure.
How well you do in court will depend on your prior driving record and whether or not you have had any "other" run-ins with the law.
I wouldn't count on the cop NOT showing up for court -that's a big gamble. You must arrive prepared to present yourself as a responsible law-abiding citizen in court or you are dogmeat.

You insurance premiums won't go up if you were ticketed by a BC mountie and you have an Alberta license. Insurance companies pull driving records from your home province only and out of province tickets don't show up on those. Same with demerit points, won't be an issue.
Hey, as long as I have the attention of the Canadian guys, how much are you paying for insurance? I'm paying $2500/year

This might be irrelevant in ur province, but in Ontario, Ex-Coppers are pretty good. Im using them to fight a ticket, and I know a lot of ppl who have used it and won...
but like everyone else said, the points u get out of province are irrelevant in terms of insurance rates..

then when it finally IS time to go to court.... nominate somebody to represent you....just incase the cop DOESN'T show....
I'd rather GIVE $176+CAD or half of that ticket money to my friend for reppin' me than to feed the cops....!

At least you guys in BC don't have photo radar to worry about anymore.
Very good point, don't feed the cops...

well guess what?....my friend who is NOT a Japanese citizen did most of the speeding.... haaha.....
Thnx for the suggestions guys....I need to be sure that Demerit points don't carry across the Province....
The Copper looked and sounded(?) like a Golden BC native.....i am sure he would show up to provincial court in Golden.....can I take it to another provincial court?
Yeah, I am definetely going to make it hard for that cop to get his money......especially after he treated me (and my GF) like ****!
As for insurance, I had an accident in Ontario(they can track accidents anywhere in North America!!) and that brought my premiums up to about $2800 per year, AFTER I turned 25!
Still, it's a deluxe package. I am considering incorporating myself and re-registering the car under a business.....hmm!
