Feeler Post: Opinions on alternate disc material in ST*??
currently, the ST classes don't allow any changes to the clutch. you have to use factory or factory equivalent. my question is, what does everyone feel about allowing something along the lines of an allowance to change the clutch disc as long as you use a stock or equivalent pressure plate and the disc is non-metallic? this would prevent multi-disc clutches or extreme pressure plates, but still allow you to improve your clutch holding power.
my tired motor with minimal bolt ons can slip the clutch on falkens and i can only imagine it will get worse once i freshen the motor up. obviously, something as simple as using the centerforce stage I disc will help a lot (the stage I uses a stock type Sachs pressure plate. the serial numbers are actually the same for the pressure plate in the centerforce kit as the Sachs clutch kit, centerforce just paints it orange). however, i realize that not everyone drives a honda. what cars will have a more difficult time of changing the pressure plate? (thinking of modular one-peice clutches) any other drawbacks to having this allowance?

I agree that there should be some allowence for upgraded clutch hardware. Not wanting another stock clutch was the only reason I moved from sts to sp.
even if it was allowed i will stay with a stock clutch. With a fresh stock clutch i haven't had a problem with slipping even with bolt ons. I also like the somewhat soft feel of stock clutches too.

well the idea would be that the pedal feel would be like stock since you would be using an essentially stock pressure plate. the only difference would be that the friction material of the disc would have a higher co-efficient of friction and thus hold more torque. sorta like upgrading your brake pads.

just replaced the tranny and inspected the clutch. other then a little blue-ing from pro-solo launches, the clutch looks pristine. it doesn't slip bad, just enough so that with grippy tires the rpm's fall off slow. less grippy tires just chirp and the rpm's come down much quicker. it's not something i'm crying about, but it would be nice to get a clutch disc that will let me chirp 2nd again. i can't show off for the girlies right now and it has me a little depressed.
