Front Transmission Mount
Is this a bad thing? It doesn't seem to unscrew by hand. If it turns out that the bolt is cross threaded, I'll replace. The mexicans at the shop my dad brought the car to in texas left it like this...

Second of all, this seal is broken and there seems to be some oil seeping out. This is the one on the back side of the transmission where the shifter input thing goes in. I haven't checked the level to see the severity of the problem, but would it be a wise use of my time to replace the seal?

Thanks so much,
-Ters!

mmm, pics of the mount arent too great, but I just ordered one from Majectic, like $40, easy to replace. Certainly replace that tranny seal though, you dont want to have to keep checking the level and filling it up every week. The same seal leaked on my EX tranny, cheap and pretty easy to do even with the tranny in the car. The bitch pin is the real fun.
Looks like they never tightened down the front mount bolt, its just a 17mm tighten it with a socket wrench.
As for the seal you speak off all I see is a picture of the shiftlinkage. Are you talking about that boot on the linkage? Its a dust boot that keeps crap out of the spring pin area I guess. You could replace it if you feel like it. Keeps that pin from getting rusted in I guess.

I think hes talking about the gasket behind that boot. He coudlnt get a pic of the gasket itself without removing the boot so he jus showed where the leakage could be seen at. Thats about the only place any fluid could leak from. But yeah, tighten down the mount, I was thinking it was messed up/cracked or something.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I was talking about the bolt in the mount, not the whole mount. Just holding it together...it seems not to be in all the way...either that or it was meant to be that way...
I'm sure I'm fine driving for a while more with it like that, but I'd like to get it fixed eventually if it is a problem .
What is involved in fixing the seal? I was talking about the rubber boot thingy, but I suppose it is leaking for a reason.
Do you have to split the tranny apart to put a new seal in?
Oh yeah, I've heard the bitch pin is a dandy.

Uhh I think Automatics have different mounts than Manuals but that might only be the passenger side mount that is different. If I had to do it I would say yes it works.
Thanks for the info on replacing the boot, FourthGenHatch. Should I bother looking into the seal where the shaft comes out of the tranny, or will the boot take care of most of my oil leak problems in that area?
No problem, ThE bEe GuY, I've whored plenty of my own threads.

If you have a fluid loss then repalcing the boot wont do anything, the seal has to be replaced. If so its not hard, take off linkage, pry out old with screwdriver, press in new with small punch. It could simply be grease thats coming out out though. So just keep an eye on your tranny fluid level and if its all good then I wouldnt worry about it, maybe throw some more grease in there.
As for the mounts I'd say they are different as when I looked for mounts for my car it specified AT or MT. The only one I think is the same is the driver side mount (which isnt attached to the tranny thus why its the same)

Well I just ordered the same mount your talking about saturday so I just went and looked up the parts and according to Majestic theyre all the same for the Si. However when I compared MT to AT mounts for my EX the rear and front tranny mounts came up diff. I dunno, very odd.

Yeah it will fit I just got done with putting a manual into my CRX the mounts that are different is the rear mount and the passenger side tranny mount otherwise the drivers side and the front mount were the same.
