Default type r piston'd gsr block?

well heres the deal, i have brand new usdm integra type r pistons& rings i wanna throw into my all apart gsr swap soon to be turbo'd. I just wanna know if it would be safe with running these on a greddy kit at around 10 pounds(dsm'450's+afc hack) or maybe even 8 pounds. When i had ctr pistons in my other gsr it used to knock like crazy at stock timing unless i used octane booster every time on 94 unleaded. Anyone running a gsr with usdm type r pistons boosted?

well i used this link i found on a search(pretty cool calc) http://www.c-speedracing.com/h...c.php

and came up with this compression using a usdm gsr head, block, teg R pistons

11.12

You guys hink it would be safe running this compression? or sell these pistons and buy some stock gsr ones? I would like to use the R pistons thinking that since the hack without 3 bar map sensor and all that can only run around 10 pounds , i would believe maybe with some safe tuning(vapor trail will do this) 8-10 pounds will have more hp than the stock gsr slugs no?

no doubt the itr pistons will yield better numbers than the gsr pistons, also better spool up and your power curve will look very nice(very linear)

it can be done, but the tuning has to be really good. you wont have much room for error by using the itr pistons. i had itr pistons in my gsr block before going boosted, i decided to switch them out for some je's instead. i just didnt want to be worried about a bad tank of gas or something like that blowing my block up.

you should talk to your tuner and see what he thinks he can do with that set-up, IMO.

i talked to my tuner, and he wasnt really feeling to good about the itr pistons in the gsr block, so i went ahead and just got new pistons. i know it can be done, but if your tuner doesnt feel like his tuning abilities is up to it, than dont risk it. but from what ive heard, vaportrail is VERY good. so you may be able to pull it off, but talk to him first.
