Default All about the block - what shorblock for B16modified head, would you choose?

As I countinue to research and have a general idea what my all motor buildup would look like after I'm done I still have few questions about the bottom part of the motor.

Head: Headwork by Alaniz, or Portflow, Skunk2 stg. 2 or JUN III cams with proper valvetrain, FPR, Hondata, Skunk2/ITR manifold and ITR TB, etc.

Block: Currently B16, but I wanna get rid of it. Now I'm looking for something cheap that will give me high enough compression to take advantage of those cams I mentoined above.

B18 - A, B or C ?

I can get a GSR shortblock, slap new rods and higher compression pistons on it and bolt to the head? What else is needed and what kinda prices am I looking at?

Would building an LS/Vtec make more sense/power?
Throw in some ideas, or build me good shorblock

You will be able to find B18a/b blocks cheaper and easier than B18c blocks.
I would go B18a/b for price as well as the extra displacement.

So than what I need is oil lines to hook up the block to VTEC solenoid?

What kind of work is needed on the block before putting new pistons and rods in?

id go for the b18c1 nothing like a factory block that can rev at least to 8k.

it already has the block girdle, oil squirters and a nice r/s ratio.

now if you wanna take a ls block and make it as reliable as a gsr block
it take some more money.

I've been hearing about LS/Vtec being a hype.
First thing after some google search I find http://www.hstuners.com/news/wmview.php?ArtID=5

There's a lot of HT users saying, that R/S on those block is crap.
Another thing commonly said is that poorly build ls/vtec is most likely going to blow.

Anyone wants to comment?
What does it take to build a reliable LS/Vtec?

I have in mind something like that:

LS block, machine work, ITR/CTR pistons with shotpeened rods, arp rodbolts. Vtec water/oil pumps, all gaskets and seals.. am I missing anything?
