Default helmet doesn't fit

ok i'm really short, like 5'5.. and i did autox, and when i had the helmet on, i couldn't fit in my own damn car ('94 gsr with sunroof) so i had to open the sunroof... i was told that a bucket racing seat would lower me considerably, but then i was told the brackets are raised 1/4 of an inch so it wouldn't do me any good... anyone got suggestions?????

YES I do. You need to set the seat so that you are upright-not reclined and then determine how close to the headliner you are when belted in. I have the same issue in my 99 Prelude. The solution is staring you in the face actually.
Take yourself, car and helmet to a real auto trim shop. This is the type that does street rods and other custom work in addition to regular seat cover projects. The shop I use (Sisco's in Monroeville, PA) is one of this small group of specialists. What they will do is take the stock springs from under the seat and either reverse them or replace them. This will lower you up to 1" to start with. If that isn't enough they will work on the foam seat padding. When it is right you can have them restitch the cover to tighten it. My seats are leather and they are a little loose-but tighter than cloth would be. The transformation is nearly impossible to detect and you will be properly positioned. Don't try this unless you have done it before. I paid about $40 to have the shop do it and it was well worth the money as they also did the leather project.

The cheapest solution is to slouch a little if you can and if you recline the seat a few clicks it should give you some head room.

Another option is to install Del Sol seats.

Lastly, if you want to go with a racing seat I recommend using a bottom mount seat such as the Sparco Rev (If you fit). They are easier to mount then side mount seats and will gain you a lot of head room. If you get a side mount seat such as the Sparco Evo you can use the stock rails (with some drilling and grinding) and gain some head room.

Im wondering how in the world this is possible.

Does a GS-R's sunroof really take up that much space?

I have more than enough room in my ITR, and I have seen a 6'4" geriatric patient in an ITR with no issues.

lke2drvgsr, in what class do you autox? if you want to replace the seats, that will help determine what kind of seat to get. i autox in STS, which requires your seat to recline, so i went with the del sol seats. they lower me 2-3 inches, but i'm 6'2" and i'm afraid they may lower you too much and cause visibility issues, especially with daily driving.

The sun roof takes up a lot of room and the GSR seats are very, very thick.

The Sparco Rev seat, like the Evo, is side mount only...

Seats like the Corbeau Forza (bottom mount) tend to sit you lower in the car, since there is not alot of padding on the bottom of the seat. Its robably not the best solution for a daily driver, but I do know people that do it.... http://www.soloracer.com/corbeauforza.html

EDIT: You are 5'5" and your helmet hits the roof? I'm 5'9" and have autocrossed a GS-R before and had no problems. Maybe you're sitting a lot farther forward than I was and thus higher in the car??

That's probably because he has no hair.

LOL...

Well, this is with a helmet on.

GS-R seats are different, but only in the firmity of the bottom cushion. I have no reason to believe the dimensions for the seats are any different, unless someone has measurements?

Still wondering how this is possible. Is he wearing an old **** Stormtrooper helmet with the little spire on top?

my legs are freakin' stubs, so yeah, i sit almost all the way forward, completely propped upright.. otherwise i can't reach the pedals or the wheel so it's definitely possible that whole stitching idea with the leather is a good idea but i like the leather tight, i dont wanna make it loose or nething. thanks for all the other suggestions, i'll take 'em into concideration
