That "big black round metal thing" is your brake booster and a leaky M/S can let brake fluid get into you booster and wear out the diaphram in it causing a loss in pressure which will mean its no good and has to be replaced. But thats not always the case. When you press real hard on the breaks does it slowy go to the floor? if so your booster might be bad. But you might want to check just to see if your M/S has a busted gasket. Otherwise their real easy to replace. The booster though is the biggest pain in the ***!!!

it doesnt go down, it jus leaks fluid from where i said. do u think its possible that the gasket broke and i need a new one.

i never paid any attention. but other peoples cars. when u shut it off and the next day, before u start the car, is the brake pedal pressurized? mine seems to be pressurized already, before i start the engine.

thanks

i'm not sure what you mean by being pressureized. But it should usually be pretty firm. If you have a soft peddle you have problems

i just replaced my M/S because it was bypassing, and it gave life back to my brakes, but my pedal is still soft, so i guess I need a booster too, or maybe I have air in my lines. Either way I'd get both replaced on your car.

And yes, your pedal should be firm when your car isn't running.
