Default How do I hook up the switch for my foglights?

I'm sure + is 12+ and - is Ground. However I was wondering about the umbrella looking thing. I have a feeling the 12+ from the foglights goes to it and when I press the button it connects those 2 12+s. I guess the ground is because the button is illuminated?

Also does this look like a CRX foglight switch? It fits into my car but the look of it doesn't match any of the other buttons in my car.

I don't if it does but I thinking it doesn't. I'm not a whiz on electronic **** so I couldn't say for sure. All I know is my car is hooked up for fog lights cause i have the wires running from the cabin to the front bumper i just need the foglights to make it work.

Besides those EF foglight switches are hard to find so why not try it?

My car isn't pre-wired for it anyway. Do you think this set up will work. Seems to me the switch works by interupting the ground to turn it off and than connecting the ground to turn it on...

Looks to me like a gound wire symbol. Switches with lights in them usually have these.

my guess would be that the umbrella looking thing would go to the accessory. in this case, the lights. cause if it were a ground, where would the power go to? I would say:

+ = 12V power source
- = ground
umbrella = to fog lights.

Yeah that makes sense, I bet your right. I was thinking the foglights went to the - and umbrella to the ground inside the car. Not a big deal, in theory I would just have to unplug one wire and put it in the other. I think it should work.

There was more than one Ef fog light switch. B/c I yanked one off a 2nd gen. crx at the junkyard that looks like that one. The fog lights were smashed in the collision though. Darn.

Do you have an ohmeter or a continuity tester? You could see what happens between the +, -, and the umbrella when you press the button. My guess is that the umbrella runs out to a fog relay.

Kincaidcrx sent me the switch. He said he got it off an 89. Perhaps 88-89 was one way and 90-91 another.

I plugged it in, it fit in fine, but I haven't attempted any foglight stuff. Maybe in 2 weeks or so.

I've got a CRX white fog light switch in my Hatch... it's sideways instead of vertical like I need, so I'm willing to sell it. Any takers?

Am I out of my mind to think that a relay in the engine bay would be a good thing? It looks like a pretty good switch, but running good wires thru the fire wall might not be fun, and it probably isn't the best safety thing either.

Pictures please. I might want it if it looks more like the rest of my interior. I love the OEM look.

I run all my wiring through my A/C grommet which is now just a grommet with holes since I have no A/C. Makes doing things like this very easy.

OK....enough BS.

Do you have a voltmeter? No? Go get one now...I'll wait....its probably the single most important tool when working with anything electronic.

Anyways...this one is simple....it wont matter to which pole you plug the ground....assuming the swtich is simple enough....etiher one will work:

Circuit is either
/
---------UMBRELLA------/ ---+------ NEG (to foglights)
|
--------POSITIVE----[LIGHT]---|

/
---------NEG-------------/ ---+------ UMBRELLA (to foglights)
|
--------POSITIVE----[LIGHT]---|

In either case, when closing the switch, you'll get continuity between the Neg and umbrella and the light will turn on.

you have to find out first off it the fog lights that you are using, use a relay. If they do, they you have to figure out if the switch puts ouf (-) or (+). That is important because you have to know how to wire up your relay. here is the easiest thing for you to do. hook the switch up, (+) to constant 12 volts, (-) to ground and just hook up a wire to the umbrella thing. Not check with a test light, or meter (meter is the best thing to use, they are as cheap as $10 at radio shack, you should have one) and check to the see what is coming out of the umbrella. then turn the switch off and check to see if the voltage went away, if it did, then that is your output, now turn in back on an read what the meter is saying, should be reading 12volts either positive or negitive, if it is reading negitive, that mean that the leads from your meter are backwards so swap them and mark your wires!! Hope that helps.

It's a fog light switch that looks like it goes in the dash JUST below the cluster where the CRX has a space for optional switches... It's a rectangle that is wider than it is high. Hatches are all taller than they are wide, if that makes any sense.

Let me break out the camera tonight.
