Default rear lock accuator doesnt work

well i took off the panel to my rear driver door. there are 2 plugsto my lock accuator. one plug-goes to some chip in the accuator. and the other goes straight to the motor itself. the one that goes to the motor doesnt have any power and the one that goes to the chip has power cuz when i press the keyless entry remote the test light coems on. i ordered a new accuator but now im thinking it may just be a short. cuz b4 it worked on and off for weeks at a time. could it be a short or bad connection through the door? or you think the motor is bad. if i press the key less entry shouldnt the lock it work, cuz its running on separate wire than when i lock it from the inside?? thanks alot for the help and ideas!
