Limit of R Compound Tires
So.....How do you find the limit of your R compound tire, without over cooking them? This weekend while participating in a solo event at cmp (west portion of the course t-2 through t-8 and half way down back straight you cut through and there is a mild straight to t-2, first couple of sessions rear was stepping out (this i believe due to lack of heat) but then after dialing in the pressures i found it hard to keep the car on track at track out....i was using most of the rumble strips on track out.....i was letting car track out while carrying as much speed as possible....
so the question is
where is the limit of an R compound tire?
I ask this because i believe i am at no where near the limit of the 'R' compound tires i have driven on. So how do i find the limit without "cooking" the tire?

ha ha Chad! no where near the limit, huh? i remember seeing you go right off the track several times Sunday morning during qualifying... now, we can attribute this to zero sleep the night before and a super thrash on the racecar; but, regardless, you found the limits of adhesion of the R tires coming down hogpen onto the front straight, I'd say
on a more serious note, i tend to overheat and overdrive the tires; i feel them go away near the end of the race. mucho pronounced understeering during the last laps. thats the limit of the tires (and a not so good pilot!).
see ya at lowe!

Chad, you should reach an optimal slip angle on the tire before it goes away entirely through a turn. In other words, if you watch your tach on the exit of the turn, you should see a drop off in exit speed as a result of going beyond the optimal slip angle before you lose traction. Once you see the drop off, you know that you have found the maximum level of adhesion. However, doing this requires you to be remarkably consistent from lap to lap.

during that off in hogpen i decided during the 100mph drift that it was time to pack it up and call it a day....and to not race....i do not believe at any time the "tires" had anything to do with that off....it was purely due to lack of sleep lack of mental awareness.....i could drive the course in my head and predict what the car would do but my hand/eye/foot/reaction time was seriously decreased and would have decreased to where i'm glad i spun rod bearings!!

wow. i never thought you'd be ok with that.
