clutch is messed, burning smell all the time
first off, did a search and didnt come up w/ anything. ok, so last week i went to the drag strip to run my car. on the last run i totally fried the clutch. like going down the strip it wouldnt grip on WOT, it would go up to about 3k, and then just start revving like it was slipping. then about 20 mins later when we left to go home, the car was fine, no clutch slipping or anything. the only thing i noticed was that the engagement point in 1st was a bit higher than before. so the next day i drive the car around and the entire time driving it around, there is this subtle burning clutch smell. and then when i turn the car off, and get out of the car, it smells like burning clutch a lot. is it time for a new clutch, or did i screw up the engine more than i thought? help guys.
My friend thought he had fried the clutch is his Jetta a couple of weeks ago. I told him to wash out the insulation pad under his hood and see if the smell continued. If not, I told him his clutch wasn't gone yet. He called me the other day and said the smell went away after he washed out the insulation. Give it a try before you have someone replace your clutch. Hope this helps.
i dont think my car has an insulation pad under the hood. im pretty sure under my hood is metal/tin, whatever you want to call it, haha. thanks for the suggestion though. i opened the hood up today too and the smell was coming from the engine/tranny.
