what kind of driveshafts are you running? what year, and are they just bone stock? is your H22 blueprinted? if so, did you buy it from Trasco (sp) Racing that way? did they supply you with any extra engines? have you talked to Rebello or any of those guys about building you an engine? what about Skunk2 or even RS Machines or the like? sorry for so many, but we just like to see the big 4 door succeed!! and how do you find the USTCC as compared to the Speedvision World Challenge (if you've driven in that). what kind of prep have you done to the car as far as strengthening after all the weight reduction? thanks!

Tom,
Way to keep your nose clean! Congratulations again on the win at Reno.
I'm amazed my car was able to keep going. My left wheel was bent so bad that the rim split. The tire was out of air by the time I loaded into the trailer.

Hey HRDCORD, Sorry no links, I'm trying to learn how. Look on the USTCC.COM website and click photos. If you are going to Phoenix in
late September you can see the car at the USTCC race.

Hi IAKONA. The drivetrain is stock 95 trans with a KAAS limited slip set on the soft side and just stock driveshafts with the proper maint. (like always). My engine is a totally stock 95 bottom end with a head by Todd and the crew at Jun (Accuflow now). Their computer program is great and I LOVE the cams. I have a lot of cage work in the car where it matters. I cut two cages out in order to get what I wanted and to meet some if the sillier SCCA rules. I see you are in NorCal. Come by and see the car for ideas on your car I will be glad to explain why and how.
The problem with the Speed Channel races are threefold. God the motors cost a fortune and sure don't last. Second is I hate those T1S it feels like driving in the rain all the time. I plan on doing some races next year when they go to the RA1s if I can get over these other problems. And lastly the first two laps seem to be a demo derby with all the banging and shoving. I'm thinking with better tires it won't be so bad next year. Now a motor sponsor and I will be off to the big races
As for the USTCC races they still need to grow. My position is the USTCC guys can't afford all the bodywork of the Speed Channel guys. Threfore NO TOUCHING! I know sometimes **** happens but if everybody would try to drive within their ability the series would be cool and affordable both in money and time.

Hey Fastom, thanks for the link.
I don't mean to start a random question in this thread, but since you look like you might know the answer to this, I'll ask. I heard that in the touring car races you aren't allowed to change out the bottom end of your engine in the car that you are racing. Is that true?

Makes me happy to see an Accord do so sell out there. What sort of suspension are you running? And what are some of the biggest differences between USTCC and Honda Challenge?
Good luck
Good luck
HRDCORD.
USTCC allows any manufacturer engine in any same manufacturer's body. The catch is you have to weigh according to the horsepower of you new engine. For instance in my car I run an H-22 from a 1995 prelude VTEC. The engine have to remain stock (cost reasons) but now some of the little cars are allowed cams or other specific mods inorder to keep up with the fast guys (me I hope)

Hi HYBRIDTURTLE,
Cool Handle, I always wish I could think up those neat names.
I replaced all of the rubber with Heim joints, not that hard really. Springs and shocks are H & R from a Type R. Had to make some mounts (thanks Anthony) but it wasn't too big of a deal. The shocks work great.
Not a lot of differences between USTCC and HC. I guess the wide open head rules in HC is the only one that hurts.

Thanks for the info Fastom,
Good luck in your future races, if it isn't a closed race, maybe I'll make it out to one of the more local events and check it out.

Hey Fastom,
One more question: What have you done to your transmission to ensure long life out of it? I see all the posts on here where guys have failures, and you seem to be the most punishing on yours. Pray tell good sir; what's your secret??

Easy shifting and matching the revs on downshifting. NO power shifting (can't afford it)
PS that KAAS limited slip sauce really sems to protect everything in the crunch box

Congrads on the win, Fastom.
Can we see any of the races you participate in on TV? I'd love to watch. I am a fan of SCCA World Touring Car Challenge, but any car races of that type I love to watch, there just isn't good coverage to really follow closely, though.
I saw one of the Speed Touring and GT races last year in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, and found it a lot more impressive than on TV. I was even more impressed when this year, this series wasn't here, but was replaced by an equivalent provincial championship, but the competition was waaayyy down compared to SCCA's race. I think they lapped 4-5 seconds slower on a 1:10 - 1:13 track.
Still, entry level budget for that competition was 50 gran.
Which leads me to ask, what is your budget? Or in other words, how much does t cost you atentry level? How much more to be competitive enough to win? (If not too indiscreet)

i didn't realize you were on this site, fastom. i saw your car at hyperfest, and was really impressed by how well you did. i went mostly to pick pat sharp's brain, b/c i'm setting up the same chasis for hc, but i checked out your car more than once. you even made it into a bunch of the pics i took in the pits and during the race.

congrats on the win, although i was sad to hear of the casualties (sharp & that 5th gen civic).
hope to see you out there again soon.
Suaceman? Where did you get that name??
Budget, it a crazy thing. I was out with a friend who races Winston West and dinner, drinks and such was $1400.00 for about 16 people WHEW.
Anyway at our level. I think I can run a SHOW-UP season for about 2000-2500 per race. I tried to budget $3500 a race and just can't quite get it down tht far. But this year I have been doing very well and I think After prize money I will be near $4000 per race. P.S. this is half of what it cost me to go to the Speed channel race at Laguna Seca last year.

Anthony Vanni made some sleeves to mount the bottom of the Type R shock to the through bolt on the Accord arms. I'm sure he would sell copies if you are interested. The top mounts are quite simple really, just a round aluminum plate with a mount for a spechirical (sp) bearing for the top of the shock rod. Way cheaper than a camber plate because no adjustments are needed.
Keith G. of HASport will have mounts out for our cars about now GET EM they are great and you can feel the difference! amazing really.
I don't like rubber bushing in the suspension. How are you ever going to know what the dymanic toe, camber, caster, ETC are if the suspension arms are moving under load? So all rubber was replaced on the suspension. Some of these were very easy to do. Go see a short track dirt stock car store. They have premade tubing of various lengths threaded and in cool colors. For instance the lower control arms on the rear suspension. Throw those suckers out. Order two heim joint with an ID of the through bolts that used to hold the arms. Take these two heims to the stock car store with the length specs you need. They will sell you the right threaded tube rod cheap. Not only cheap but they have a very cool look under the rear of the car.
