Default Valve Cover Gasket Question for 1.5L DX

Ok I have one and I would like to repaint my valve cover because it is all stripped and peeling. I went into Canadian Tire (Canada's Pep Boys) and asked for a valve cover gasket and they offered me one for $39 which had grommets in it and one without grommets for $19. I have no idea what one I need. Anyone know what I should get?

Well you'll want to check the condition of the grommets you have, if your not sure what they are when you take off the 4 crown nuts to remove the valve cover theyre the small circles that the bolts go through. Its a round rubber gasket with like a copper/aluminum cap. Most of the time they stay stuck in the valve cover so you have to pop them out. Just check for cracking of if theyre really stiff. If you reuse them just clean them up and make sure they seat back down.

yeah, those can be reused, just inspect your old ones first. also- make sure you don't have a torqued-out jimson saddle. that could cause you some real problems...

I doubt they're charging you the extra money for the 4 grommets...its the spark plug giude seals that are prob jacking up the price; they usually come all together (valve cover gasket, grommets, and spark plug seals) and unless you see oil on the plugs, I wouldn't bother shelling out the extra cash.

Have the same problem...LOL...went to CT last week and they offered me the same kit...I had the same question...wtf are grommets ....the gromets are the little rubber seals under the washers that are under the 4 bolts that hold the valve cover on.

If you ahve to remove em to paint...be careful....if you damage em...get the oen with gromets....and replace...you dont want little pieces of rubber failling into your engine.
