Default how do you check the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) on a 98 accord v6?

Anyone know about the TPS(Throttle Position Sensor)? I got some info. that this might be giving me a problem. How to check it , where it is, etc ? Any diagnostic help would be helpful.

I would also ask if anyone is having trouble with the EGR system on this model accord (1998 v6). I know the previous owner took it in to honda for the EGR update service. Honda says they install a "sleeve" and drill out the ports. This because of EGR service issues back in the late 90's with this model. Is this true?
I may be having trouble with the EGR system clogging up.

Thanks,

It's not "anybody" it's everybody. The EGR port update is now a warranty extension. How long ago were the repairs made? The port could be clogged again. I needed to clean the ports more than once on a couple of different vehicles...

What problems are you experiencing with your Accord? Erratic or low idle?

I was told the EGR update fixes the problem with the EGR system. The car has 60,000 miles on it now. The repairs were made around 40,000 miles after that owner complained of problems. I am not having any idle problems that I can notice. but am having this problem:

I have a 98 Honda accord ex v6 3.0l with the 4 spd. a/t. The car shifts and runs smooth both under normal driving and heavy acceleration . However, as I am driving at a steady speed (50-60mph) and give the car gas very gently to maintian speed (esp. while going up a gradual hill) I seem to get a lugging/chugging feeling which varies in intensity and frequency until the car downshifts or the torque converter does whatever it does. The tach. does not jump ,not that I can tell anyway, when this happens. The tach. usually is reading between 1600 and 2000 rpms when this happens(not that it has much to do with it). It may do it at interstate speeds between these two shift points but I don't do much interstate driving to notice. The car has 60,000 miles on it and I just purchased it a few months ago. Carfax gave a clean history for the car. It did this when I bought it but it took me awhile to notice it as I became acustomed to the cars habits. This problem can be reproduced 100% of the time. With the speedo reading between 50-60 mph and the tach around 1600-2000 rpm under gentle accelleration up hill or on level roads this happens until the trans. downshifts or ????.It almost feels as if the car is not getting gas, gently lurching, or lugging as I stated above. I know the car does have a lock up torque converter for cruising and a type of fuzzy logic / grade logic trans. set up. Please help if you can. I have a good mech. who is a honda specialist but I have not been able to get the car in to him yet. Maybe your vast knowledge will help.(This was pasted here from an email I sent to Sam and Daves Garage which is a car radio show that airs Sat. AM in my area).

Also, lately I seem to notice after pushing hard enough just to jump down into next gear (not to the floor and kicking down hard) a feeling the car is not picking up speed as fast as it should maybe a alittle sluggish.

This was "Dave's" response to the email I mentioned above FYI.

>Sam and i really appreciate all our listeners.
>
>For ur Honda. It sounds like a classic EGR float, passage problem. Honda
>recommends at the 60K service to have the EGR passages cleaned out. If
>some of them are begining to be blocked, and the EGR is modulating at that
>speed and load, then u will get a lean condition in certain cylinders and
>rich in others thus a surge will occur.
>
>I would have ur Honda specialist concentrate on this area. U could have a
>TPS that is also getting flat in a certain spot. Not knowing the past
>owners driving habits, possibly he drove in the exact area where u are
>feeling the problem., thus causing wear on the TPS in that area.
>
>I don't think it is torque converter shuttle but u can check this ur self.
>When driving the car at the speed u encounter the problem, lightly touch
>the brake pedal. (not hard enough to apply the brakes) this will
>disengage the torque converter, the problem is it may also cancel EGR
>operation, but try this a see if the problem goes away. If it does tell
>ur technician what u have done and found, it will shorten his diagnostic time
>
>Hope this all helps
>
>Dave and Sam

Can anybody add anything to this to help me out?

Thanks .......... SteveD

I would need to test drive your car to be sure but from what you describe, it sounds like normal torque converter clutch operation.

When the TCC solenoid is engaged between 1600-2000 RPM, you feel the car is "lugging/chugging" until it releases. If you LIGHTLY press the brake pedal, you will turn the TCC solenoid off. Try to play with the brake until you can decide for yourself it's just the TCC you are feeling.
