so trevor doesn't sell replacement bulbs? I find that strange, but it could be true. Any Catz dealer should sell replacement bulbs. They WILL burn out afterall so selling kits but not bulbs seems like a strange business decision IMO..

actually, it would be a good business decision, as most buyers dont think in the future

Come on soup, you know that's a stupid arguement just as well as I do. It doesn't exactly cost much to drop ship some bulbs from whereever he'd get them from. There's no overhead in drop shipping and no stocking. I agree that he might not stock every single type or replacement rebased bulb, I wouldn't either.

Trevor does have replacement bulbs but I dunno about phillips ones. As he only has the Catz kits now. You should act fast as his wharehouse is in the US... so after AUG 15 no more HID's from him I guess.
I love the "Aug 15th" rumor. So far I have not been able to find anything on the DOT site in general or the NHTSA site in specific regarding any new rules regarding HID lighting. HID Conversions have ALWAYS been illegal, this is not new. The last oepn NHTSA RFC that I found that mentions HIDs closes on April 13th, 2003. RFC = Request for Comments, not even a rule of any sort.
If you can find me solid documentation that somehow changes the fact that they are already illegal into some method of preventing their sale, then I'll believe you. But I'm guessing you didn't research the issue at all with the DOT/NHTSA websites.

Well most of the companies selling aftermarket HID's seem to be stating that they will stop selling on AUG 15.. so regardless if he wants them he should get it by the 15. And actually the discussion isn't really about aftermarket HID's but ALL HID's in general.

Again, provide me with PROOF from the DOT or NHTSA. I didn't find any on their website.

NHTSA have outlined that it is in their agenda to take out aftermarket HIDs off the market, no date specified:
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/....html
Other websites have also mentioned about it:
http://www.enjoythedrive.com/content/?ID=25405
If you want concrete proof, either wait till next monday and see if HID kits are still available to purchase, call the manufacturer directly and see what they say, or call NHTSA 1-888-DASH-2-DOT .
It is always the case that information usually leaked is always viewed as speculation till it is official the day it takes in effect.

Trevor: Thanks for the link. So the NHTSA/DOT is going to fine retailers for selling illegal merchandise. Sucks for the retailers, doesn't suck for anyone else until people need 9006 D2S rebased bulbs...
To summarize, from what I can see, there is no change at all in the laws regarding HIDs. Instead, some people are saying (still haven't seen published info from DOT/NHTSA yet) that retailers can be fined if they sell HID Conversions. DOT/NHTSA has been talking about action for what, 3 years now so I wont be surprised either way. If this does happen, just install some A6 projectors. NHTSA would have a hell of a time forcing a recall on all DOT-legal OEM HID setups forcing owners to switch back to halogen
Of course, if they do fine for this, I guess it'll be harder to get offroad HID lighting too. That would suck a little.

so I can file a safety complaint? or was I supposed to hold for an operator?
From what I can tell, they are just going to be fining retailers for selling something that's been illegal for a long time already. This isn't a "ban" or new law or anything, just enforcement. I'm betting one can still find bulbs and kits after august 15th, even if it's through seperate parts orders vs kits. After all, it's illegal when using them in non-DOT approved HID housings. The Ballasts, bulbs, etc are not illegal per se.
