My fiancee and I are going to be getting a 92 accord coupe. Very nice car, well cared for and in good shape. I was wondering if there are any typical quirks about the 90-93 accords. Ive noticed a few things that seem to be typical but I figured someone here will have more info. TIA
Quirks of the 4th gen off the top of my head
- Defective Main Relay causing no starts or start and quickly die
- Rust in the rear wheel wells (well, almost all of Honda but whatever)
- EGR ports becoming clogged in the manifold, causing hesitation at 1500-2000 RPMs at partial throttle and high NOx emissions (I think it's NOx). The 90-91s are a bitch to clean, the 92-93 a tiny bit better (slide hammer ahoi hoi)
- Ball joints may be getting loose at this mileage, causing vibration at high speeds
There's more, but nothing that can't be checked with a quick test drive. You probably know this by now seeing how many Hondas you've owned, but make sure when the timing belt was done.

Thanks for the reply. I wasnt sure if the main relay was an issue like it was on the 4th gen civs. The balljt boots all looked new so Im assuming, by the test drive that things are good. It has 172k on the odo and other than a few dings is really nice. I plan to change the t/b and h2o pump first thing for piece of mind. Any good sites with info about the timing belt change. I dont need another Helms laying around just to have for torque specs etc. TIA

It doesn't have the torque settings though. If you don't want a Helms, just get a Haynes. Yeah it sucks, but it does have those at least.
