Del Sol questions
Hi I'm very interested in a purchasing a Del Sol but I needed some advice and insight. I could care less what year I get from 93-97. But is it worth it for me to shell out a little bit more for the DOHC VTEC engine? Or should I just go for the regular S or Si? Any pros or cons from each one other then the power of the engine? Thanks alot
i first bought the si version, with single cam vtec, then i bought the dohc vtec version, if you arent gonna build some fast del sol, just buy the dohc version, its worth the extra 3-4 thousand that you pay over the single cam vtec. but if you are thinking of fixing it up, go with the cheaper single cam, save that money for suspension, and exhaust, owned both, raced both, hardly any difference, unless the dohc has the ABS, air, if it wasnt ripped out! and the best feature of the dohc, the brakes, they make a difference, i believe the single cam had 9.6 rotors up front, and the dohc had the 10.4, makes a difference, probably the best overall difference next to the power difference, and when you do find the dohc version, usually the b16 is tired out. so, if youre gonna spend money after the purchase, go with the sinlge cam si, if not, then the dohc, if money is an issue, which it usually is.later.
DOHC VTEC... So much better IMO. But all depends on what you want. One thing to look for in a del sol, is the trim around the targa top. They get old and rotted. If i were to do it over, i would have got a hose out and sprayed the top to make sure it didnt leak before i bought it. If does leak, it is a major pain, and if you want to fix, the trim is about $1000. Just something to watch out for.
