Did you guys hear of the new S1000 Honda may send here?

It was given a little blurb in the new issue of Road & Track. Supposed to have a 1L I4 with 120hp and a 2000lb. curb weight... for well under $20k. It is what the Miata lost focus on being, an affordable roadster for the masses. If Honda brings it here, I'm on it... And I mean it this time!!!

Yea... the CRX fans have been talking about this for a while now...
The problem is, it'll come out with the engine of a CRX but probably weighing several hundred pounds more.

What about either the Sun Elise or the soon-to-be-released Elise? That's gotta be right around 2000lbs if not under. Maybe they could throw the K-series in there, that'd be quite a vehicle...
The Elise I saw the article on a while ago was around 1600lbs in US trim with an ITR motor and trans. I seem to remember seeing something last winter on someone having put a K motor from a TypeS in one. The car was crazy fast, I think it worked out to something like 300hp/ton. I think they were working on cooling system and brakes since they were set up for a 120hp motor.
The R&T article didn't seem too confident on the S1000 coming over here. Too bad, I think we need some light fast cars again.

Yeah, but is the Honda going to be FF? I read it will, unlike the S2000. FR is something the Miata still got and probably won't lose focus of. I would hope the Honda will at least have a stock LSD.

Please join me in contacting American Honda in CA and lobbying them to bring this spiritual successor to the S500/600 to this country in pure, unladen form.
This car appeals to the all the underpaid high school special education teachers like myself who, despite recent lapses still enjoys his Civic immensely, but secretly wants a low priced entry level roadster like the original 1990 Miata was.
Thank you

I'm guessing the Sun Elise is so low-volume that they don't have to meet normal US regulations.
As for the rumored US elise, that's a good point. I don't know anything about what the US version will be like though.

There was some talk in Mag-X about this car a little more then a year ago. I really like to look of it. Kind of a mini-RSX. I doubt the US will see a car that small. We can hope.
BTW, the new Elise in US spec is being prototyped with a 190 hp 2.2 VVTI Toyota motor. According to a magazine that has actually been right about most new, uh, sport compact cars, that is
If they are right Toyota should definately use that 2.2 in everything, especially the MRSpyder.
Hope that Honda decides to put make a hot version of the S1000 and bring it here.

Unless they have a new motor in the works, it will probably use an E or L series variant. Engine bay size will be the number one issue. Any1 know if the L & E series are bolt compatible with the K-Series?

Agreed. Perhaps someone should bring up the concept of a burger-grilling contest.
