Default 88 and 90 Si Dist differences...?

Here my problem: bought a 90 crx si, previous owner put in an external coil which is a pos! The car runs horribly rich especially high rpms causing a huge loss in power. I was able to undo the ex coil and put the Dist back to stock coil. But the symptoms persist. I have been looking at my 88 crx si to compare things. My 88 Dist has a tiny cylinder shaped object attached to one of the wires, on the front of the Dist, but the 90 Dist doesnt have one spliced in. Is this normal or did the guy take it off.

I noticed that also... I have 91.

I know the 90-91's dont have that little thing well at least my 2 didnt...

Are you sure its your coil doing that? Sounds more like a fuel problem...

Stock engine? FPR?

Give me more details!

All i know for sure is that a lot of fuel is not getting burned up. I do not have a FPR. I am assuming the problem lies in the ignition system, because of another issue with the tach. It will jump around after 4k rpms. This has to be related to the rich condition in some way both pointing to ignition. I put a new coil in and it still has sypmtoms, but it was good to get rid of that msd hack job. The engine has all bolt ons and a cam, but i had this setup before on my 88 and it ran like a beast. This car just has no top end and blows tons of black smoke.

Thanks for any suggestion

Ah. Check out the connections to your ignitor... its directly under the coil, and its like a mini ecu looking piece on the right side of the dizzy.... the tach wire is the blue one going to it and will act up if its loose.

Could be your ignitor dying.. mine just did and it took my coil with it to...
