ive just finish rebuilding my engine and have been driving around for about 500 miles. there is this guy i know that is renting out a dyno place for the day and invited me to go with him. i havnet reached teh 1000 mile mark yet but i really want to dyno with him. right now i am shifting at only 3k due to the fact that it is not tuned yet so im scared to drive it hard for the break in period.

what are your thoughts?
1) go to dyno right away even with only 500 miles
2) keep breaking it in till 1000 miles, then dyno

 

If your rings are seated go for it. Do a compression test and leakdown test and check your oil to see if you are burning any if not I would go for it as long as everything else is sound! That is what i am doing also, so next week I will dyno right before an event hopefully.

Wind it up to redline a few times on the street over the next few days.
I wouldnt want to redline it the first time on a dyno under all that load.

Your rings were probably seated a long time ago. Don't worry, go dyno your car it's safe.

 

i dynoed my car with 250miles on it and after i get my manifold here am going to do it again with the new short block

As long as your confident you have a conservitive basemap.

 

whats 500 more miles... its better to be safe then sorry and no don't redline you car untuned "common sense people"

Put it on the dyno and run it to redline.

 

yeah i agree on dynoing it...as long as you havent noticed any signs of anything wrong then after 500miles you should be fine...if something does happen to break on the dyno, chances are it would have broken later on down the road regardless of if you went the extra 500miles or not.

do a compression check, and if it were me ide change the oil and filter and add some new plugs in before the dyno (also have extra plugs with you)

Ya. I had 67 miles on my motor. Took it to the dyno did redline and vacuum pulls with 9psi. Tuned partial throttle on the way home from the dyno with a wideband. Break it in like you are going to drive it. My motor is perfect. No smoke, no leaks, idle is perfect (with 720cc injectors), and compression is perfect. I now have 230 miles on it. Do not run with a basemap to redline thats just stupid. Most of the time they are way too rich or lean. Dyno tune it, you will be cool. If the motor is built well it will be fine.

Most importantly is make sure you let the motor warm up to operating temperatures, and make sure if you are tuning on the dyno to let the car cool down after a few runs. You'll be ready to roll

exactly.

Your rings should be seated within the first 100mi. the only reason you would baby a motor is so that you could possibly catch something vibrating loose over time before something catastrophic happend. which is illogical in the first place. But at this point in your motors life, things would have either failed or not.

It's a machine it either is or is not. Your motor will respond the same to Tuned boost now as it will 1,000 miles from now.

BOOST IT!

actually, yall are making me feel like i shouldnt be babying it anymore, so now i feel like not driving it and taking it to the dyno asap!
