Hey guys,
I posted a while back about my car making a grinding noise when trying to start it, I tried replacing the starter...didn't fix it. So I called up fidanza, and talked to Tom Fidanza(very nice guy). He told me to send it in and they would have a look. So I sent it off, and yesturday they overnited me a BRAND NEW one NO CHARGE. It arrived today, and it looks great! I immediatly noticed differences between this on, and my old one.
1. They now put bearings on the flywheels.
2. The teeth are actually shaped differently.
I saw where my starter was grinding on my old one, and it was actually starting to make the teeth on the old flywheel look like the way the new teeth are shaped. So I guess the teeth shape was the prob all along. I am installing it this weekend so I will let you guys know how it works out.

I basically just wanted to let the guys that replied to my post saying they had a similar problem know something to look into.

Also I wanted to give Fidanza a big and let everyone know there customer service is top notch.

That's good to know, because I recently ordered 2 Fidanza Flywheels, and both of them seem to already have the pilot bearing installed. Can you take pics of the flywheel ring gear?

your title scared me because I didn't see the and I just put a Fidanza on my car about 3 weeks ago. Mine had the bearings in the middle.

Just to let it be known, Clutch Masters Flywheel is the same as a Fidanza flywheel.. But, most all people here know that already.. Just for the noobs

yea, labor for install is like 260 I think...I don't really know cause I do all my own work

I have had it for ~2.5 years I think, I am not sure how many miles. The grinding only happened every once in a while at first, but recently(past 2 months) it happened almost everytime I tried to start the car.

Damn it. I sent mine to them to have them put a bearing in and replace the ring gears and they told me it couldn't be fixed. So they tried to sell me a new one for cheap. I said yes at first but then changed my mind. They threw it out so couldn't even return it to me. They just send me cam gears instead for my H22. I wish they just sent me a new one too.

 

so if yours came with the bearing installed then does that mean you got the "revised" one with the ring gear changes? I ask cause mine just got here last week and it came with the pilot bearing.

mine has the beveled edges... did the old one not have that???

nice... i would strongly suggest the renting (or borrowing from friends) of air tools. They speed up the clutch/flywheel process so much you wouldn't believe. It took me roughly 45 seconds to remove my clutch and flywheel from my car with air tools. If you already have a set of nice air tools, disregard.

 

Yea, I think it would be considered the "revised version" My old one didn't have the bevels, or the bearing. So I hope the new one works better. I should be able to tell you guys tonite, as I am putting it in today.

No doubt air tool own!! I have a full set of them, and I love them. I use to not have them/worry about it, but they just help SOOOOO much. Make everything go way quicker

one more thing guys...I just toticed they now put the timing marks on the flywheel ...my old one didn't have them, and I had to use some white paint to mark the timing...

mine actually just started doing that too, but i just got mine back in feb. or march, would those bevel marks be on there already? for my sake i hope there isnt any.

my uncle seems to think its the flywheel and not the starter, but its gettin worse and worse. Man thats an annoying sound

 

I am not sure, easiest way to tell would be to pull off the starter, and shine a flashlight in the starter hole and check out the flywheel teeth. Then compare it to how mine look Should only take about 20-30 minutes. Also while the starter is out you could run it to an auto parts store and have them test it. They should test it for free.
