Final Drive Plans "D" and "E"
The 4.4 JDM and AWD Wagon plans have washed out. Can't find the elusive JDM unit and the Wagon piece won't fit. Its been a great learning process though.
A pimpy Houseman FD is $1700. Uhhhh... no.
Now Blake and I are on to the next phases of "Operation Anchor Elimination."
Both plans revolve around the 4.7 ATS final drive. Its a bit more than we really want, but we think it'll work with the taller 50 series tire and give us effectively the same gearing effect as the 4.44 with the 45 series tire. We lose the advantage of the lower profile tire, but you can't have everything... Right?
So our first plan, since there isn't much available budget, is to score a used 4.7 ATS at a reasonable price. I know its a stretch, but I'm sure people occasionally sell them.
If anyone knows of one or stumbles across one for sale. Please let me know!!!
The second plan is to try to get a sponsor to pick up the $900 tab. We strongly feel that Blake can win the ARRC in this car with an improved FD as he is already within striking distance of the track record as the car sits. So this could obviously be an excellent sponsorship opportunity for someone. My problem is that I've pretty much already tapped out my sponsors and connections building this car with Kirk, RoadRaceGear, OPM, and Cobalt having already pitched in.
So the second bit of help I ask for is if any of you know of someone who might be interested in sponsoring a potential ARRC winner for the reasonable fee of $900 (for a new FD), Please let me know and I will contact them ASAP.
As always any help is appreciated. There's lots of knowlege and lots of connections on this board which is priceless in my situation.
Thanks!

The SRR unit is certainly much cheaper but they don't have an application for my car. Looks like they are just concerned with the most recent models.

Yeah, I noticed that it was listed for 92-00, but I've seen the srr/ats mentioned in reference to the same application, and I thought ats only made the one FD.
http://www.exospeed.com is where I find my sohc info. Who knows, maybe they would want to get their name out in the RR world.

I might need you to IM me with your contact info Phil. I've been fighting with my email (and bellsouth) since I moved.
If I can get my email to work, you'll have one shortly.
Edit: or I could just get the phone number from philstireservice.com

look at the manual for L3 tranny it shows the FD/diff assembly from AWD tranny being quite different than regular 5 spd. tranny. actually the whole gear assembly looks pretty drastically different.
hmm, i would imagine the FD fits across all regular L3 tranny? how close are the L3 series (88-91 trannies) to the S20 series (92-95)? i never took a closer look but it sounds like the FD do not interchange?
is this the ratio that's currently in your car?
1st 3.250
2nd 1.944
3rd 1.346
4th 1.033
5th 0.878
Final 3.888
