i had considered converting my car to E85 for boost. problem is that anything that's not natural rubber or stainless steel in the fuel system needs to be replaced or the fuel will destroy it. E85 does have an octane of about 100, but it also has about 20% less energy per unit than gasoline, so your fuel mixture will have to be rich enough to reflect that (means roughly 20% larger injectors than you would need for the same boost level on gas). those, coupled with the limited availability of E85 around here at this point make it not really seem worth it..

it's not just a matter of filling the tank with E85. the fuel maps and fuel system hardware have to be modified to make it work.

what i am going to do is have two different maps on two different chips and run 720cc injector with hondata i ran e-85 on the FSAE car and it does not eat the alm and all the test we did. but menthnol will eat al fittings but the e-85 it hard to store because it likes to pick up water.

What type of injectors are you planning on running? I want to know where to buy some alcohol compatible injectors also. Is this a street car?

what sort of long term testing did you do with it? all the specs i've read state that anything that's not stainless will get destroyed.. i would love to hear that that info is wrong- the cost prohibitive nature of replacing everything from the injectors back was what stopped me..

i guess E85 was before my time at FSAE. we ran M85 in one of the turbo 250's. that was some nasty ****.

i really like this idea though. keep us posted...
