90k mile service question/maint req. light question
I have a 95 GSR and the maint req light flashes for a few seconds after I start the car. I was told that the light comes on every 7500 miles and flashes when it gets close. is that correct? also, how important is the 90k mile service? i can't afford to do that and timing belt, so i wanna just do timing belt. (600 bucks !)
also one more thing... how many miles would you feel safe going over the reccomended timing belt chage?
thanks a lot guys.. I'm goin back to work.

7500 is right. It'll blink for a longer period after starting the car as you get closer to maintenance time. I THINK it will remain on eventually if you don't get the service. There's a button or switch hidden somewhere that the tech presses to turn the light off.
just hit that button underneath the dash for a few seconds and the light will go away. As for the timing belt, just do it yourself. It's only a 2 1/2 hour job. $20 for the belt, clean up the water pump o-ring, and just a bit of your time. My mechanic quoted me $370 for the job and i thought that was way too much.
Go get your hands dirty..

yaksplat,
Timing belt is a 2.5 hour job?! Is that for sure? How come the dealers always say about 4hrs? Is there some trick u know that cuts the time?

Well I would replace my timing belt at 90K definately. If you are handy, do your own tune-ups and understand general mechanics. Have the proper hand tools and manual, you can take you time and do the timing belt and water pump yourself. For a beginner with hand tools and floor jacks, expect to take half a day or 6 hours. Good experienced mechanics who have worked on Hondas and the right tools and air tools can get the job done in 2.5 hours. But I would say allow 3+ hours on general.
As for cost $600 dealer price is crazy. You can get it done by a good mechanic for $350-$400 with Honda parts. BTW, OEM timing belts run abt $50. and OEM water pumps are abt $45.
Good luck!

all you're really doing is removing all the accessories attached to the pulley cluster
theres really not a lot there
but, dont rush through the job and get 1 tooth off
not even the knock sensor can compensate for that one
besides, if someone was paying me 50-70 an hour and it wasn't my car, i would probably take a little longer too
not only for the extra cash, but also to ensure that there are no mistakes
