Default How do you take the rear panels off an ek hatch???

I have a 1996 civic ek hatch and I need to take the rear side panels off to get at the tail light screws. I tried reaching my hand through the small panel that comes off so you can see the tail light wire harness but that didn't work. So, how do you take those panels off? I see there is a middle pannel that sits under the hatch door and I took the two black plastic screws off that but there is still something holding it on somewhere. Pictures detailing how to do this would be great. But by the looks of it, I have to take the panels off all the way to the rear seats just to get access to the rear tail lights? This car is really put together wierd. I am comming from a 1994 civic ex coupe which was very easy to get to parts to add/remove them to this car which is a head ache just to do simple stuff. Basicly I just insulated my tail lights and I need to put them back in, but I can't access to screws to tighten them good.

Also, is there any way to change the corner bulbs without taking the front bumper off, taking the headlight brace of, and then removing the headlight completely? Every small project takes hella steps. With the 94, it was unscrew on screw, switch bulbs, screw back in. And now this

i just reach through the hole that pops out but if you want to, here's my piece on removing panels. The center that is around the latch for the trunk has 2-3 screws and maybe some pop rivets. there are 2 screws into the floor on mine. then take the speaker cover off and unscrew the area above the speakers from the side and then its just like 4-5 pop rivets on the top and some styrafoam. i just pulled hard enough to get the rivets out. i hope this helped and im not too stupid for typing the way i think

to get to the back of the lights take out the couple of plastic screws that hold the middle panel (sounds like you already did it), then just pop it out. pull hard enough and it'll come out. for the side panels just pop out enough of the panel for you to be able to get to the lights, you don't need to take out the whole panel. as for the front blinkers, you can reach then if you bend the fender liners back a little. you'll need to unscrew a couple screws and pop out a couple clips, then just pull the liner back a little and you'll see the edge of the headlights. no need to remove the headlights.

Thanks a lot. I know I had that code thing wrong. It took the longest time with the civic coupe to figure out that its an ej1.

Also thanks all for the tips on how to get those panels out. I was able to reach through the little hole to get three out of four really tight. The upper inner bolt was too far to reach with the socket wrench though so all I could do is hand tighten it. I guess next time I will just pull the panels off. I though there was some sort of hidden screws cause I took all the screws out and they were still holding. I guess I will pull harder next time If something breaks, I will be sooooooo hurt But thanks all again. And sorry for the late reply.

Also, about those headlights, I just ended up taking the front bumper completely off, removed the headlights, inserted the bulbs, and accepted defeat. But I guess all is well now.
