Default 5 speed or 6 speed

The wrecker that I'm getting my K20 thru can only supply a ITR 6 speed at the moment. I was thinking that a 5 speed would be better for the power/weight of my car. Or should that be torque/weight. The car should have 260whp and 1500lbs.

What would be better 5 or 6??????

too decide right you got to find out what the gear ratios are for 1st thru 5th(6th) and what the final drive is for the two and compare.Personally,Id probably go with the 6 speed just because its got that extra gear to grab

very true. Consider this though. Regardless of inner gearing, Ericks Racing has a reported 4.9 FD. And he grabs all 5. And theres no way he would be as ineffecient as to not end at the top of 5th.
So getting a 6 spd:
A) that's a fuckload of shifts
B) What other gears can you put in there? Are you getting the 6-spd to grab 6th in the quarter? That's some pretty short numbers.

All I see is with a 6 spd, 1st through 3rd is gonna go too fast to be acurate on the rpm you shift at. a close ratio 5 is fast enough.

Actually Ericks tranny does use a 4.9 fd but he tops out in 4th gear.
