Default turbo LS VS turbo b16!

which would you guys rather start have... a turbo b16a or a turbo b18b. i was thinking of going with the b16a because of the tranny, but then i was thinking of the b18b due to the low compression and bigger stroke. any opinions. thanks alot

i personally would go for the turbo LS with the lower compression as well as the nice torque. THe b16 has its pluses with the v-tech. its' really up to you. the LS swap is cheaper however

hmm..decisions. considering it may take me a while to get the turbo, i think i may go for the b16 to have some fun for the time being.it can make some good power also. i am really just looking for some low 13's to high 12's eventually with stock internals...?

id go with the LS. more dispacement is hard to beat. the way ive always seen it is that the LS motor and b16 motor can easily make the same whp stock. the difference is the b16 is much peakier and looks closer to an NA graph. Advantage: LS. Area under the curve wins races.

I get it, the b16 needs v-tech so it can call 911 when the b18 **** rapes it. B18b all the way! Your car has no torque, you need more of it desperatly!

would it be benificial to have an LS/VTEC turbo setup? the head from the b16 flows nicely. but what tranny would go best with this setup the b16 or b18

the difference in engine price from b16 to b18b is roughly $100 so money factor is not an issue. mainly looking for most powerful.

I'd think the LS tranny would be better for boost just because of the longer gearing you can get more boost out of the turbo.

Im not going to get off topic so do a search and you will find out that the LS is not better for boost. If you are going to be doing nothign but highway it may be the way to go, but the Gsr is hands down the best tranny for a "street car" . The whole longer gearing myth was like back in 98 The longer the gears the slower the acceleration period.

Anyhow back to subject the turbo ls will put out alot more torque than the b16. Also you can hit your goal of high 12's on a stock block LS. Im going with ls turbo, gsr tranny

LS all the way. They don't call the B16 a torqueless wonder for nothing.

LS/VTEC is that much better

add a gsr tranny to all that and you have a nice setup.

i am not too concerned with the torque issue? is it possible to hit low 13's with the stock block b16a and, say, a drag gen 3 kit with stock boost+tunning? how much easier would it be to hit low 13's with the LS block if easier at all?

you should care about torque. torque says a lot about the power band.

you shouldn't have a problem reaching your goals with either engine, i personally went b16 an am hoping for low 12's, stock block.

well my turbo b16 hatch last year with a stock motor and a t-4 setup i ran 13.5 at 108.47mph. that was wheel hopping and spinning 2nd and 3rd and that was with 4 psi. i never got to run it after i fixed those problems but i was beatting any ls turbo it went up aganst i beat an ls coupe i beat an ls hatch. it didnt matter in my opinion b16 kills it for a cheap stock motor and reving it to 9k with my chip when the guy next to you is shifting at 7k when the turbo realy starts to pull hard. im going to get flammed now but i think the LS stands for Less Speed because thats all i've ever seen a stock ls anything have compared to anything with v-tec

Put down the crack pipe, you prolly couldnt even beat a z28 with that setup let alone an b18 hatch with significant boost.
