How much oil to use in B16A1

How much oil to use in B16A1
Quick question... Every place I have read says to use 4.2 quarts after assembly and 4 quarts per oil change (I believe this is correct). Whenever I change my oil, I put in 3 quarts and the dipstick says it is full. Is it possbile that it has the wrong dipstick, or does it only take 3 quarts to fill the engine?
