Default Way OT: Moving to the Boston Area

Hi gang. I've taken a job in Framingham MA (outside Boston) and am wanting to know where to start looking for the car "stuff". I'll be up there the beginning of September and wat to at least try to get to some meetings or local events to meet people and get familliar with what's available in the NorthEast. Any and all help/suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance...

Best of luck with the new job - Boston is a great place, and NER SCCA is a great group

for leaving us

You guys aren't totally losing me... I'll be towing back down as often as I can. At *least* to the SP events, and I can't never drive VIR again. That would be unthinkable. If the Cupier's (sp?) can tow from Upstate NY, I can manage it from MA.

The guy in the big-*** red Mercedes that frequents NASA-VA events is from CT, and I've seen him 3 times at CMP, Summit, and VIR....since APRIL!

Boston rocks.

head on over to the dfh forum. It's a lot of New England area people in general and quite a few right around Boston, including myself. NER (www.ner.org) and NESCC (www.nescc.org) auto-x's are a great place to meet local enthusiasts as are some of the HPDE clubs such as COMSCC (www.comscc.org) and SCDA (www.scda1.com).

NHIS and LRP are fun tracks. Plus there's a new trend starting up in "Motorsports Clubs" and a new track being built in central NH. It's gonna be like an exclusive resort for auto enthusiasts. Different memberships get you different amounts of track time and other amenities. The Boston area is a lot of fun but winter and the roads suck. It's way to long to wait to get back on the track.

Good luck and I'll see you around. Where are you going to be working and what do you do?

We'll miss you Diane!

Be sure to buy a house big enough for a guest room. Kendra and I will be visiting often

Remember, I lived in Cambridge for 2 years and did a lot of "exploration" (bar hopping), so I could probably show you around the city a bit

Maybe i'll try to visit boston again. I spent a summer in NH two years ago, and the summertime up there kicked alot of ***, except for the 40-degree nights.

i moved to the boston area last year, some nice roads but most are really chopped up. the winters destroy the roads.

there are auto-x events that happen in ma, ct and nh, plus there is lime-rock in ct and also a nice track in new hampshire... good luck

I am going to miss you. Not enough gals doing events to begin with and you are certainly an inspiration to most. And now you're leaving

You will probably have to join SCCA, get a license to continue the WTW stuff up there. NHIP is great ( I knew it as Bryar)

It's about 9 hours from Littleton to Fairfax so plan on a lot of vacation time when coming down here.

But you're right - if the Curpiers can make it to CMP then the world is your

Will give my brother your email.

Hi Diane, its Phil, with the not so pretty black Acura (its in the process of being rebuilt now). My shop is only 4 hours form Boston. We are along the Hudson, upstate NY a bit, about 30 minutes south of West Point, a far as logistics go. There is a lot of good racing up here too, except we don't start until April.... I have a lot of connections with racing stuff up here if you need some help. LRP is only a 2 hour tow from my shop, Pocono is 2.5 hours, New Hampshire is 5.5 and Watkins Glen is 4.5 hours. The NER is probably one of the premier regions in SCCA. They are usually far ahead of everyone else and a close knit bunch. I don't belong to that region but they have a good reputation. Miatas are a BIG thing up here........SCCA races get anywhere from 25-35, sometimes as many as 40 cars in one race. The only class that rivals them in size is ITS, sometimes. Well, good luck in your new job and if you need anything let me know.......

Diane,

We are going to miss you down here that's for sure. Tarheel autocross events won't be the same without your sunny disposition in the bus for first heat T&S.

Hopefully we'll see you around sometimes and like Whitney said make sure you buy a house with a spare bedroom and while we are requesting things how about a spare space in the garage with a lift possibly? Maybe we can plan a gathering at the Glen or LRP sometime.

Congrats on the job and good luck.

Shawn

I'll definitely have a guest room. You guys are welcome any time to show me around my new city. And bring Karl with you!

Thanks Phil. Glad to hear Miatas are big. Sounds liek good size fields. I plan to get my SCCA license so I can race up there next season. Also will keep my NASA one for tows back down south. If feasible, us northerners sould consider a caravan down when we're doing all going. Keep each other entertained on the CBs.

You're welcome up any time Shawn (and the family of course). And you all should DEFINITELY plan a trip north. I'll let you guys know what my northern schedule is so maybe we can all gather at one of those.

Thanks everyone who responded!

Diane
