Minivan conversion, purely hypothetical...I'd never do this to my car.
(would be easier to get out of the car in the crowded LA parking lots though)

All doors should open like that, or lambo style so that some retard doesn't get out of his car and put a ding in yours. Like the ******* that parked next to my car.

I was thinking that also...Pretty innovative if you can come up with a way that you won't have the lines on the back panel like mini-vans do....Someway that you can have it like that but still look completely stock from the outside.

You could have the rails on the inside of the door. so your lines would be only visible from the inside.

You guys know what I am thinking? I'd like to make a basic attempt at this on an old car with thin, light doors. I think it would be fun, and really cool if it worked.
i'd never do something like that, but if all cars were like that there would be no door dings. nice idea.
it would cost a crapload, btw.

heh thats a pretty sweet idea, i bet it can be done, rails on the inside, you sould do it, you might need to figure out a way to lighten the doors so that your track mechanism can handle opening and closing the dorr, what about wires and locking mechinism. nice idea thought

Probably cost around $800- $1000. The hard part is making it clean and have the extra hardware hidden or at least flow with the interior of the car. Probably the easiest way would be to have a rail at the bottom of the door and a bar that rolls on barrings in the middle of the interior door panel. However, you'd need the tracks to provide stabillity and hold the door by its self or you'll need two roller bar thingys. The top bar could be curved in the front and partially done up to look like a stock looking handle. Both bars would have to be welded in 2 places on the door itself to add ragidity. You'd also need to have at least two sets of rollers welded a ways appart for the same purpose under the b pillars.
