Duplicolor wheel paint
Anyone seen the add in the new SCC about there rim paint and I checked there web site and they say it holds up to weather (which I dont have to worry much about living in the desert) and is durable paint. So what do you guys think does it sound any better than just regular spray paint I want Gunmetal rims BAD but cant afford a powder coat..
I painted my racing rims with plain duplicolor enamel. The finish has held up for a month now with some very very minor chips. The only problem is the paint wore off where the lig nuts make contact with the rim but that remains hidden by the nut. It depends on what the rims are for. Racing, spray paint them. Show, powder coat them. I didn't try the dupli-color "rim paint" because it doesn't come in flat black.
One last thought, if you scrape the rim on a curb or something like that you just blew one expensive powder coat job unless you used spray paint in which you can just clean it up and reapply more paint.

Cool man thanks I think I am gonna give it a try, the only thing that is holding me back is ruining my stock rims which I really like that is the main reason I ask. The car is not a show car it is all about the go well mostly go. Cant say all or I wouldnt even want to be painting the rims, eh. Anyways thanks for the info, I think I will call them duplicolor and see what it will cost to paint my rims with there rim paint.
Sand Paper (600 grit)
Grease, Tar, Wax Remover
Primer (2-3 Cans)
Enamel (3-4 Cans)
Total Cost - ~$40 (somewhere around there)
Remember take your time, and preparation is the key. Sand well, clean well, spray well.

And for your information, I used 1.5 cans NO primer alot of sanding and tar a wax and grease remover I used laquer thinner on the tires so the tape would stick extra good and took my time. Those wheel's on my car have been painted 3 times and came from Racing Hart powdercoated white
