Help, I got a rain water leak in my ek hatch...
Well basicly whenever it rains, I get these two puddles of water that appear in the rear of my hatch. They appear on the rear, left and right side of the car. Like right under where the tail light wire covers are. They don't flow into the spare tire well unless they get deep enough, but the appear on the actual metal of the car by this really big hex bolt. They can't be leaking from the top because the grey carpet cover that goes over the spare tire is never wet. But there is a nice little puddle of water after every rain storm. Where is this water coming from? I took pictures of the water location but I can't pull them off the camera till I leave work and go home. If you have a picture of the rear interior of an ek hatch, I can show you exactly where the water pools up. I never saw the water actually come in so I have no idea how or where its coming in. Its a 1996 dx hatch if that helps. If anyone else had this problem and fixed it, that would help too.
welcome to the club... my spare tire well was always full of water till i drilled some holes in it to drain... i think all hatches had a leaking issue, if you take it to the dealer they will just caulk your tailights in place...
Yea, thats great. Thanks for the heads up. I guess I will make some kind of home made insulation on the taillights and see if that fixes the problem. Right now I have two grasshopper sized swimming pools in the rear
yea it sucks, have you removed your tailights recently? cause i dind't have the problem on my 96 hatch. then i got oem 99 tails, put them on and it started to leak. i had a fish tank in my spare tire well. i wonder if thats why they call it a well. any ways. i think i broke the seal or someshit. good luck.
Here's what you do. I had that problem myself, but everyone told me to seal it. Well I didn't want to seal it b/c then my tail light would be stuck to my car. That foam piece that is in between your tail light and your car, take that out, goto a craft store and buy about 4 sheets (11x8) of that foam stuff. trace the pattern of the foam piece onto the new foam pieces that you bought. Cut it out (all the little holes and everything) then add two foam pieces to each side (so total of 3 foam pieces 2 new and your 1 stock). bolt your tail light back on and put pressure on your tail light so that the foam is pushed between the tail light and the car.
That should do it. I did that about 2 months ago and it works great. No more water in my spare tire area!
And trust me. It rains a lot here in stupid NOVA.

Nope, their still the stock tails. I guess the seal just went on me. I'll fix it tonight then. Thanks a lot.
