Low Gas Light..How to test?
What up everyone?
I've been trying to drive my car to the limits of its fuel economy but i'm afraid of finding the limit with no gas stations around me. Is there any way to test my Low Gas light to make sure it works? (other than the obvious drive around til you run out or it comes on method). I don't mean does it just light up, but does it serve its function.
It seems that i can keep driving for about 25 miles after the last bar goes blank (oh yea, its a 4th gen.). Does any body drive it more than that?
Let me know if you have any ideas.

theres probably a way to find out from an owners manual. i know my integra manual said it could go xxx miles after the gas light came on.
BTW, you should know that running your tank that low can cause undue stress on your fuel pump and possibly failure. Just buy some gas you cheap ***. (j/k)

i have driven about 30 miles once the light came on. when i stopped to fill up i believe it took 12.9 gallons or something to that effect.

When you say test it, do you mean see if it comes on at the appropriate time? Or if it is functional? IIRC when you are starting the car it comes on for a second. If you are just wondering if it will give you adequate time to refill I don't think there is anything other than getting a gas can filling her up and go out and test..
With my 4th gen I ALWAYS fill up when I get down to 1 or 2 bars....so I dont know if my gas light works either. BUT my advice for you is don't even let it get that low...in addition to putting stress on the fuel pump as 93preludevtec said BUT also cars the age of our 4th gens usually have deposits at the bottom of the tank from years of built up particles and inpurities (I've always heard) So w/older cars never let the gas get that low.
Just my Opinion...

I'm a poor college student... my gas light is on constantly, just get it low on gas and drive around in the immediate area. And if if makes you feel better get a small container of gas and bring it along, just make sure you dont do anything stupid while driving around with a gas container in your car.
Ive driven about 30-35 miles while the light was on in my 5th gen, it sounded like it was starting to struggle but then I found a gas station.
dont ever run your car low enough to need that light.. thats when u are picking up all the trash in the tank and u can **** some **** up like an injector circut on the ecu (ive done it i know). not likly u will do it ive done it several times (run till the light comes on i mean)..
thanks for all the responses guys.. i knew about the fuel pump stress but thanks for reminding me, i had forgotten! maybe ill use the extra tank in the trunk idea.. didnt even think of that.. man those paint fumes are really getting to me.. haha
were is it supose to come on!?! I think that is the question here. I've never had my gas light come on and it's been at less than a gallon once or twice before.
