My car wont go into reverse... :(
its a 99 lude 5 speed.
this is what happened...
got in my car, drove to kroger, parked, then when i tried putting it into reverse.. it wouldnt go in... i pump the clutch a few times, no go. went into first, then tried going into reverse.. still nothing. turned the car off to see if i can get into it w/o the clutch... still wouldnt go in. all the other gears worked fined. i dunno what the hell happened. it will go in just a tiny bit if i force it.. but no more after that. once im in that lil party, i let the clutch go to see if it would grind.. it did...
i dont think its tranny fluid because all the other gears work just fine.
41k miles.. warranty went out at 36k...

No, it's not the tranny fluid.
Sounds more like your tranny cables are loose. Get them checked out. IF NOT THIS...then you have a problem with the reverse gear...which will cost $$$ to get it repaired.
Good luck.

Hey,
e-mail me at mavgousti@hotmail.com
I had the EXACT same problem, went to work, tried to park, couldn't get into reverse. It ended up costing me $2097.02 (canadian) at honda.

its working now.. i went to pick up my friend from work, and kept trying in the parking lot... i got it in gear and was able to move.. kept going from 1st to reverse driving the car... and now (morning) it all seems just fine...
This same thing happened to my 94 GS-R. My problem was that I mis-shifted fom 2nd to 5th and the tranny grinded. I Then didn't hink it was a problem until I stopped and then couldn't put the car into reverse. It was out for about a week or two and then my girlfriend drove the car and she just happened to get into reverse. It worked fine now. Do you remember grinding in any gear, you may have just misaligned the reverse fork in the transmission.
Yeap, if you miss a shift, it will be hard to get into reverse.. About 6 months ago I posted pics and told what happened to my reverse gear.. What happens is that 5th and reverse are on the same selector.. Because 5th is always grinding on preludes, it eventually eats away at the one side of the selector, so when you go to slide the selector into reverse, the burs that accor from the grinding won't let the selector slide back to engage reverse..
I had to replace my tranny as well when this happened to mine.. JUST PULL VERY HARD is about the only way to fix it.. But you could bend the fork if your not carefull.. Like I always say, "prelude trannies suck"!

actually, yes i do remember grinding in fifth... i was fumbling around with my cd's causing it to grind in 5th.. didnt even do it very hard, but i guess just that little grind messed it up... d'oh!

i had this happen with mine, and i thought it might be the 5th grind problem, but it just turned out to be a used up clutch. if the clutch sensor doesn't detect the clutch as open, then it doesn't open the reverse shift gate. got my clutch replaced, vola, reverse worked again.
on the 5th gear grind problem, make sure you rev match BEFORE you go into 5th, this will keep you from grinding. even if your synchro still works, do this, it'll extend the life of your synchro.
