90 LS- Brake fluid leaking *NEED HELP PLEASE*
Hey guys.
This aint for me but for a buddie of mine that has a problem.
He's got a 90 LS sedan and for a while the brakes were slushy.
Finally it gave out and the brake pedal felt like a clutch, the rear driver's caliper is leakin brake fluid all over when the brakes are applied. I donno why the caliper would be leaking. I was thinking replacing the master cylinder but replacing the caliper alone MIGHT work due to not having enough pressure in the brake lines because of one busted caliper and causing the brakes to feel like slush, that is one possiblity.
Another one is maybe the master cylinder is too weak even for the caliper busting and the master cylinder needs also replacing.
In either case we'll need to bleed the system, I heard a kit is going for about 10 bucks.
My question is:
1)You think the master cylinder needs replacing? Or will the caliper alone be cool?
2) What makes a caliper bleed, and how easy is it to bleed the system.
And any other advise is SUPER COOL.
Thanks guys!

The rear caliper is where it's leaking. Gotta fix that first. Maybe the rubber hose is burst? If it's the hose, a new caliper won't fix it. Maybe it's leaking somewhere else on the caliper? You have to find where the leak is. Calipers can leak for many different reasons.
If the one caliper is leaking because of old fluid, corrosion, general lack of maintenance, then maybe the rest of the system is in the same condition. But except for that general warning, you don't have to get a new master cylinder.
Brake bleeding isn't hard, but look around for instructions. It's been discussed lots of times. Got a repair manual?

mushy*...slushy is what apu sells at the kwik-e-mart
so he has disc brakes all around? If the caliper is leaking at the piston you can get a rebuild kit from honda for about $25. comes with ring, rubber seal, and the pins to the caliper. The kit fixes any leaking or sticking problem in the caliper itself. check to make sure that is where the fluid is coming from.

i would suggest either buy the caliper rebuild kits or get new calipers. keep in mind the MC is 13 years old and is bound for replacement also before it goes and causes the booster(very expensive) to go also. i would replace the MC also just to be safe, you can get a brand new OEM one for $100. also if they are really serious about keeping the car they should invest in some SS braklines, OEM ones are probably worn and stretched out (causes mushy pedal feel along with bad MC).
