its quite simple actually......go to pepboys and pick up some ramps. Bring them home, place the ramps in front of your tires, and drive up them. With the car in that position, you will be able to access the oil filter quite easily.

Can you replace the filter without changing the oil?
Will this cause a mess?

A little scolding hot oil down the arm never hurt anyone. You just have to be quick when unscrewing it, and yes, let it drain for at least 20 min.

for these reasons alone, i will scrafice 30 bucks every other month for an oil change combo from speedy lube. Get a quick vaccum and blue water....i mean washer fluid and im out the door for alittle less the 30 clams, ill deal. Just dont have time to do oil changes.

let's see, should i spend a couple of hours every few months to do an oil change, or should i leave it to some clueless shmuck that can potentially destroy my engine.. decisions.. decisions..

If you have time to go and get it done then you should have time to do it yourself. I use a filter wrench with a adjustable handle to break it loose then take it off by hand. I dont get any oil on my hands or arms just the block that way. Also turn it upwards on the way out so you dont get oil everywhere.

not really.. I let my oil drain for atleast 15 mins if not more.. that way I drain most of the old oil out and when it comes time for me to take off the oil filter my arm wont look like the above

I disagree. If im in and out in 30 minutes every other month and not out that much cash, leave a bag of drain plug washers in the front seat, and get an ok vaccum job, then its worth it to me. But then again i guess worth would be considered in the eyes of the beholder right???

I would rather do that then carry down a floor jack/ramps, catch basin, oil, filter, tools and an extension cord from the 2nd deck of my apt and work in the parking lot on the ground......

If thats Lazy then im sorry.....

Type R's u can reach the filter from the top... that makes it really nice and clean... but on gsr's the only way is on the bottom... i use my left arm and angle my wrist 90 degrees so that it is almost horizontal w/ the filter... then unscrew the filter off... the oil will run down the side of the block and axle and into the drain pan... so u get minimal mess

my dad brings home scrubs and boxes of latex gloves from the hospital... that way I don't need a crawler, and I just throw everything away after an oilchange Looks kinda funny though when I have everything on... looks like I'm going to perform surgery on my car

Yea, just unscrew the drain plug and let it sit for awhile. I've always been a fan of doing that stuff myself, especially after my friends engine was ruined when the local shop drained the oil, but forgot to put new oil back in

im with you. i would rather let jiffy lube change my oil and filter plus fill my washer fluid, vaccum my car, and wash my windows. plus my car is so damn low with the springs and type r lip that i can not ride up on the ramp, i mean **** i could not get up on the ramps before the car was lowered. jiffy lube can get my 25 bucks every 3000 miles.

25 BUX??? is that for the syntec??? OIL FILTER and additive I spend about 23 bux. I have the BEST oil and Best Filter and a little oil enhancement from LUCAS to boot.
I don't trust Jiffy LUBE or any other do it in 30 min or less. That CRAP is for Pizza Delivery.
Don't want to get BURNED??? LET THEN CAR COOL OFF or Change the oild be fore you drive it
Letting it Drian for 15, 20, even 30 min will not drain the OIL trapped in the filter. the trick is to do it nice and SLOW. I cahnge my oil in the morning BEFORE I even Drive the car. Most of the Oil is in the Pan. I drain it and then loosen the filter slightly until the oil starts to drip then a bit more and more the Oil usually drops to the axel but it is usually minimal.
