Default performance diff from 15in to 17 rims?

well to start off i really like the look of bigger rims, all my old cars hade 18s on them. i know less weight is better. where is what i wana know

performance differnace?

17in that weigh 12lbs
16in that weigh 12lbs
15in that weigh 12lbs

ide like to get the 17s as i think they look better. if the weigh the same is there still a diffrence when im driving?

supposedly you lose a little torque since it takes a little longer and more effort on your car to make your wheels spin.

The bigger you go, the more sidewall you lose, the easier the rims crack when hitting pot holes. Stock 14" here. If all weigh the same and are the same height(tire height) you will not notice a difference. Launching is a different story.

Well, you still have to factor in rotational mass. With larger wheels (i.e. 17's) the majority of the weight is shifted outwards and is therefore harder to turn. Imagine putting a 1 pound weight on the end of a 1 foot string and trying to spin it around. Now increase it to 2 feet and see how much harder it is to get started and stopped. Make sense?

daily driving you won't notice much of a difference except for the potholes suggestion that was made, but the best would be 15" @ 12lbs...although any rim that weighs 12lbs at 17" will be 8-9lbs at 15

I had that dilemma when I first got my GSR. I liked the performance characteristics of a 15" rim but didn't like how most of them only had a 6in or 6.5in width. I knew that 17" rims might give me rubbing issues and take away from performance. So I went with a lightweight 16 inch rim with a 7.5" width and it has worked very well for me in my time with my GSR.

BTW, I sold my GSR not too long ago, and my Kosei's are now for sale (shameless plug)

easier to launch with 15s... better handling with 17s... 16s are a compromise of both

The bigger the rim from stock the more the speedometer will be off. Theres a calculator that factors in sidewall height and stuff, to see how off it will be, on http://www.team-integra.net in the articles.

not if you match with right sized tires

with a larger wheel/tire combination you are also essentially making the gears taller, dont forget that

I guess it comes down to what you want to do with your car, if you want to take it to the tracks, 14 or 15 would be best, if you are turning it into a show car, 17 or even 18 would be fine.

not if you match them right.....you can put on larger rims, and when matched with the correct sized tires, there is no difference in speedo or gears.

for 17's you want to put a 205/40/17 on....then everything is gravy.
for 16's you want a 205/45/16

I have 17's on mine and I'm happy with the result.

Well from what i see...

17" wheels hard to get down to a 2.2 60ft time
15" wheels very easy to get a 2.2 60ft time

This proves that it is harder to get the 17" wheel moving.

I love my 17" but they do suck at the track. Why not get a set of 15" for the track and 17" for daily driving?

I drove with 14's to 16's. the larger diameter rims help the car ride higher. This is perfect if your car is lowered from the start.

16's offered a firmer ride whereas the 14's/15s provided more comfort.
