Bedding in Axxis pads. Are they supposed to glow like this?

went and broke in my new axxis ultimates like instructed. Do about 30 stops 10 from 40-50-60-70 to 5 light pressure. Repeat with moderate then heavy pressure. Got to about the 5 stop with heavy pressure, looked out the window and saw the ground glowing orange from the rotor. Hit the gas right away cause I thought it was on fire. Am I supposed to be that hard on them while breaking in or did I over do it? Also, I checked out the rotors and the fronts had a light, white kind of powder on it. I assume that is the materiel transferring right? It's supposed to look that way?
Thanks
Thanks
New rotors? The dust might be coating that has burned off.
Did you do cool down afterwards? I never make a complete stop after bed-in and drive around 20-30' w/ minimal brake use.

no they're old rotors, I had stock pads on before. And I did do a cool down and never came to a complete stop the whole time. Drove about 10-15 miles on the freeway, costed into the garage and made sure not to set the p-brake.
30 stops! I don't remember my break in procedure like that at all!
I did like 5-7 moderate stops, and then 5-7 hard stops. Then I just cooled them down and let them sit over night. 30 stops! No wonder they are glowing!

That's awesome. I made mine smoke after 12 stops during the bedding procedure. Glowing rotors though? I might have to try that just for a laugh once these new rotors are history...

So did really F up my brakes? I honestly thought I was taking it easy on 'em. Didn't really lay into them until the last few ( I hate mashin the brakes too hard, think I'm gonna break something) and spread out the stops over a good time and distance.
PS-didn't come close to 30 stops more like 20 which is more than enough I guess.

I did 8 40-20 stops and 3 60-5 stops on my Ultimates. After cooling them down for a while, they were still smoking in my driveway for a few minutes. 20 stops still seems a little overkill, but you should be alright, as long as you heated up the rotors before getting them real hot.
30 hard stops isn't bedding them in; it's 1/2 of an HPDE session :-( Are you sure you didn't misread the instructions?
Sounds like you just overheated your rotors. If you drove the car for a few cool down miles and then gently used the brakes you are probably ok. The main concern is that you warped the rotors. After the car has completely cooled go out and do a light application from 30 to a full stop. If there isn't shuddering then no warpage.
The other concern is that you boiled your fluid. Does the pedal feel mushy? if so bleed the barke system and you should be fine.
Finally, there is a chance that you cooked the pads and that is what your white powder is. Take the pads back out and inspect them for uneven wear and for cracking. While you're at it check the rotors for stress cracks.
Good luck, and next time, if something seems a little weird to you, ask on the forum first.

nah I misunderstood the directions.
on me. The rotors aren't warped, but the brake fluid is definalty shot. Good enough to get it stopped thank God. Rotors look okay, but I'll look them over and the pads well. Thanks for the info. I think I got lucky on this one
