stupid question
my friend has a 92 accord with h22a4 swap and used the h22a trans. the motor did not come with a vtec pressure switch (god knows why) so he had a vtec controller engauge vtec bypassing the switch. when he shifts from 1st to 2nd vtec isnt gauged. like it drops below vtec and then kicks in. he has it set about 4700. do all h series motors do this or is it cause he doesnt have a pressure switch?
what does he shift at? and are you sure its an h22 tranny? whats the tranny codw, its on the sticker where the tranny bolts to the block.
what rpm you are at when you shift is all determined by the tranny you have.

its not my car its my friends.he shifts at red line like 7700 ish around there. im not sure what kind of trans it is. its the trans that came with it.i have a b series motor. when i shift gears at redline my car stays in vtec. i do not know anything about H series .hes the only kid i know that has a H series and when he shifts it doesnt stay in vtec the rpms drop below vtec. do all H series motors do this . thats all i need to know. thanks in advance.
If the rpms drop below the VTEC engagement point, why in the hell should VTEC be engaged? Tell him to use his head and shift at a higher rpm for the 1=>2 shift. That will fix his "problem."
ya but the thing is, i used to shift at 7500 and stay in vtec, w/stock engagement(5k).
find out the tranny code tomarrow, and well start to narrow down the prob.

Man that is a great way to get answers.
We are impressed/ scared by your e-thug stylez.

Before you go mouthing off do two things:
1. redline is 7400 rpm for an H22.
2. I shift at 8k(as indicated by the stock tach). Try that before you get all pissy.

BWAHAHAHAH get him to rev the shyte outta the H22, see where fuel cut of is, Im sure it is about 8k or more.. then get him to rev it all the way out in first and shift just before fuel cut off.. but regardless he has prolly already tried that I guess he better find out what tranny he's got, dont want him to damage his engine and then find out it was the wrong tranny
In theory - As long as vtec enguages at the correct rpm in first gear it should remain in vtec when changing to 2nd. If it's not - the motor is either weak or it's the incorrect tranny. Second gear ratios might be too high putting a little too much load on the engine causing rpm to drop below engaugement point when shifting. My lude falls back on 6,500rpm when shifting.
Check the tranny code.

....actually......technically.....the vtec will disenguage the split second that you lift your foot off of the gas to shift gears, then will wait for the next W.O.T condition. I.E the next gear if the gear ratios allow proper rpm for vtec.

no, its more like 7600
the stock tach is inaccurate

if your friend has a h23 tranny he will fall out of vtec during shifts. if he has the h22 tranny there should be no problem staying in vtec when shifting. check the code on the tranny, then come back and tell us what it is.
why not just get a pressure switch?
if the engagement point is not where it should be from the factory and you don't have all the parts, don't you think you should get all the parts first then look for a problem? I don't know where it goes or how hard it is to install, but it seems to me that it makes the difference if your friend has an h22 that falls out of vtec with redline shifting.. and no one else's does.
at least you have vtec.. haha.

Ok think for a second. If your engines redlines (which means the fuel cuts off) at 7400 but you shift at 8000 as indicated by your stock tach. Do you think something is either off or not working correctly? Stock tachs are not correct. And even if it is and you don't have a rev limiter you probably shouldn't shift that high unless your head is built. Which if it is good for you....but then your not answering his question. Think about that before you get all pissy.

thanks for making that really clear.
