I have #440....which I guess would mean I have the 1st run here??

I'm pretty sure that it is for all of NA and not just Canada. I have 1021 for 1998 and i've some of the number close to mine are located in the US.
I was under the impression that the number signifies the number of the car made in that year, and that only 750 of them in 00 and 750 in 01 were imported to the US. I could be mistaken of course.

My understanding was that the number plates are all part of a series created in JDM land. The plates get made all at once, separate from the cars. As the cars leave for their destination (US, UK, JDM, etc) they get the plates attached. Since they have no connection to do with anything else, they can be placed on any car. This would mean that there are no two ITRs in the world with the same number.
no way, europe gets way more than north america does....glen, on the board from the UK, had #4600 or something.
and of course two ITR's can have the same #, just different years. i.e., i have '01 #1020, obviously some has '00 #1020, and '98 #1020.

Yeah, I think 1500 er so were *made* in 00 and 01, but only 750 of each year were *imported* to the US.
I can clear a few things up here,
Tarmac is on the right track that the cars get the #'s over in Japan The way it works is that they make say 9000 for the world in 98 (Just an EXAMPLE not actual #'s) they start off with say #s
1-1500 for North America
1501-2500 for UK
2501-5000 for Europe
5001-6000 for Australia
6001-9000 For Japan and the rest of Asia
Also Correct me if I am wrong but im about 75% sure that they stopped giving #s to the JDM Models in 98 or they just didnt do it in 98.
Like I said in the last post, Why Doesnt someone just call up Honda Japan Headquarters In Tokyo? If someone gets me the # I will see what I can find out
