Default D16Y8 vs. D17A2 for turbo

a friend of mine has decided to do a D series swap but is unsure which motor to go with.

I think its pretty much between the D16y8 and the D17A2
I know obviously the D17 is bigger which means slightly more torque.

what is the aftermarket support like for the D17?
I know it has a different style of ignigtion...is that benefitial of not?

are the heads similar? meaning will the manifold for the D16 bolt up to the D17?

If someone could list some pros and cons of each motor and any problems he may run into with each motor it would be greatly appreciated.

BTW...its a 93 CX that its going into

Not much is made for the D17, so if you're looking at building the motor up, it'll probably cost more. Other than that... the D17 responds well to boost, and you can find the motors easily... decently cheap for a brand new one or really cheap for a used motor.
