First time going to a junkyard any advise/tips?
Well I'm off to the junkyard for the first time today and would like to know any advise or tips you guys have regarding buying and bargaining of prices and what not. Are the people who work at junkyards usually reasonable regarding prices? Any help will be appreciated.
whatever part you are going to get, check the price of it new, and check the price of it from like pep-boys and stuff too. one time I was shopping for a right hand outside mirror for my old chevy blazer, and I went to a junkyard, got the part for 20 bucks, stuck it on, and 2 weeks later I see it on a shelf at pep-boys for 20 bucks.
otoh, back when I was driving my bug, I went to a junkyard and got a very rare, impossible to find steering wheel (a '70 empi steering wheel for anyone who cares or knows) for 30 bucks! the guy had no idea what it was, I bought it cleaned it up and put it on my bug, I still have it in my closet waiting for my next bug

I think thats a common fantasy for us, to go to a junkyard and happen across some rare treasure. Its even better when the junkyard owner has no clue about the real value of it! I'm also heading to a junkyard in the next couple of days for my first time. I'm not going for anything really specific, but I've got a list inside my head of stuff I could need if I can get it cheap.
my advice......bring a large tool box with a tray...so you can stick all those small parts in the compartment area. i got a special "junkyard box" i fit in an alternator once for a friends chevy. they should weight you in and weight you out. heheheh

I would actually really appreciate it if you would look to see if you stumble across a Si cylinder head (b16a1)
