Default *********ep civic guy w/ a question for all you prelude guys.******

my girlfriend is looking at a 95 prelude w/ an h23 and 140,000 miles on it.

it seems to be in great shape, real clean w/ a thermal R&D cat back and an aem cai.

My question is what can be expected from a prelude w/ that many miles.
we haven't taken it out yet and the DEALER is asking 4300 for it.

Since i have no knowledge in the prelude field, i was hoping you guys could shed some light.

thanks in advance

4300 seems like a decent price. the motor should run forever. i bought my 92 lude for 2500... it did have 200k+ miles on it with an excelent interior and body. i drove the single cam motor an extra 12k miles before i actually ripped a hole in the oil pan and blew the motor.
i now have an h22a..... loving every second of it. the swap is fairly inexpensive. i payed $3500 for the complete swap. if you know how to do swaps you can pick up the motor for around 2k. all and all, i would say get it... ALWAYS try to haggle the price.

for an H23 with a big stroke and 140,000 miles on it I would have the bottom end inspected. I would be concerned about the main and rod bearings spinning eventually. Drop the pan and have a knowledgeable h22a/h23a builder inspect it.

h23 is 160hp and 156 tq it has a bigger stroke so the power is earlier in the band and redline is 6500...it is a DOHC NON-Vtec head

The H22a is a DOHC VTEC motor like a B18C or B16A, just bigger. It makes 190hp at 6800rpms and 155 of torque at 5500 or so the redline is 7400.

The H22a is quite a bit faster and has VTEC, the H23 is defintely a great daily driver with the lower powerband and it's still a prelude

1/4 mile wise you're looking at 15.0 vs. 15.7 so the H23 still pulls decently.
